need help or ideas. ac clutch squeeling? 2001 ls1
hey guys on my camaro i just got in dec. the ac clutch is squeeling like the bearing is going bad. dealer wants 350 bucks for the clutch assy, napa said they have to get it from the dealer. is there anyone out there that sells just the bearing or used parts for this. 2001 m6 ls1 with 38000. u think its bad from sitting? i changed all the idlers and tensioner pulleys with new ones thinking it was that. but its deff the ac clutch. gets quiet when under a load small whine. then loud when off.

You can start by pulling it the pulley and trying to service it yourself. You will need a set of feeler gauges, some bearing grease, a 3 jaw puller, and some time. Mine is currently doing the same thing and I'm going to go that route for now I just removed the ac belt since I dont need AC now. If it doesnt work im only out a few bucks. A new clutch pulley can be had for around $190.00 from online parts houses (AC DELCO part)

Its from rock auto. I dont know if any sponsors carry that part. Like I said, you may be able to repack the bearing with some grease and be on your way. Its still cool, so you can be without the compressor for a little bit while you attempt to service the pulley.
The op didnt mention whether or not it did but if the compressor works why change it? It would involve evacuating the HVAC system, which needs to be done a shop, you're really upping your costs.

yea compressor and all ac system is fine. i ordered a bearing for it but its the wrong size its apart now. so im just going to kaman bearing wich is a timken and nsk dealer. and ill take the original nsk bearing. should be a easy fix. i have the ac puller didnt need any other special tools just the puller and the wrenches to turn it. i can see buying a 350 dollar compressor, dicking with evac and recharge and all the problems of aftermarket compressors when a $10 bearing fixes it. only took me about 10 min to get apart.
