Default Alternator pigtail

The clip holding my pigtail in my alternator has just broken. I picked up a replacement at Advance Auto Parts, and is an exact fit. Only problem is the original pigtail has only one red wire, but the new one has a red, black, and brown coming out of it. The original is a PED 5* and the new is a PED 8*. Does anyone know where to
A) get the correct pigtail?
or
B) Know if i can simply connect the red wire and either clip and cover or just cover the brown and black?

any help is greatly appreciated!

Pigtails often come with additional wires to enable them to fit more models that might use them. Isolate the wires you don't need or remove them from the connector.

your sure nothing negative will happen by not using the extra wiring?
i was told by GM that if i did that, my alternator just wouldnt work. they say the wires have to be hooked up

You can trust what Shobox is telling you, he knows what he's talking about, just check his technical links out.

Look at your old connector, identify where the wire is in the connector. Find the wire in the new connector, cut the other 2 off flush and butt connect the wire you need. I just did the same thing.

BTW buy the connector from Advance or similar place its 1/2 the dealer parts price and does the same thing.

The stock connector has only one wire needed to make it work. There isn't anything to connect the other wires to, so it would be kind of hard to connect them.

Yes listen to shobox. I changed out the pigtail on mine and just cut off the extra wiring and it works. Don't listen to GM

Packard Electric Division (which means the plastic piece is genuine Packard...AKA Delphi...AKA General Motors)

The number is the cavity location in the plastic injection mold. This is useful to identify a defective mold. If there are common problems with connectors that display a 5 (for example), then the mold should be reviewed for defect.
