I decided I need to break down and get one. I looked into these a while ago but it's been so long, maybe you guys can refreash my memory. I'm on a budget not looking for the best of the best per say just something good. Let me know what yall got and why. Thanks ahead of time

I used to run a V1 and loved it. The arrows were the best part in my opinion. Not trying to start a war, but if you're going to run a radar detector you want to be able to trust it. Protection>Price

Yeah I remembered the valentine was top notch, v1 was what I remember being the best of the best. Isn't it close to 400 though? I need something cheaper, maybe not cheap as a cobra or whatever those cheap ones are but I'm starting to think anything is better than nothing at least and I've been running without one for a long time cause I can bust out the price of a v1.

I have a Beltronics RX65, and it's saved me enough times to be worth it.

I'm running a V1 in my WS6, Passport 9500 in my Formula, and a Beltronics STi in the wifes Enclave. I love all them to be completely honest. I've also owned Rocky Mountain products in the past that worked great.

Best advice is not to go cheap and buy a cobra and think you're ok. Spend the money and buy an Escort/Beltronics/Valentine and don't look back. Be prepared to drop $300. Well worth it with above mentioned brands.

You can pick up a Passport X50 used on ebay for around $150. Great deal for a real quality detector.

Do some research on the technology behind them. Based on my research 3 years ago:

Escort and Valentine were the two best performing brands by far. Since then, Beltronics and Escort merged and now use the same technology. I personally prefer the Escort over Valentine but both are good. A detector picks up multiple bands which all have different strengths and are used in different situations. Too late to go into much detail. A cheap detector is worse than nothing because you will feel like you are safer from getting pulled. Even the most expensive detector won't keep you from getting pulled over if you don't have common sense on how/why they work and what else to watch for.

If you get a cheapy be prepared to be disappointed and just be in the hole more down the road, detector + ticket cost. Have went driving with a friend and locations that would go off strong on my passport 9500i and xi his didn't even make a blip. Pointed it out to him and he just said it was because it was the radar signs on the freeway his "blocks" them out like mine can. Within three months since that point he had been ticketed twice for speeding, every time his radar detector never went off. This is with the top notch Walmart one. Think he said he paid $170 or something for it.

The escort ones that I use have picked up from approx a mile away, around a corner, with a strong Ka signal coming. More than once I have gotten signals far enough away I could come to a complete stop, accelerate to the point I was at and slow back down to the speed limit if I wanted. Since I have gotten the first 9500i I have had 0 issues in the past 5 years and I do a fairly consistant 10+ in higher speed areas.

Keep in mind though placement of it is key. It's not going to help you sitting on your dash staring straight into your hood or back behind your tint bar angled 45* up in the air looking at the sky.

Anyone on that v995? May pick it up tomorrow or sometime this week if its a good detector and deal. I did some research online and it seems to be the top of the line up just under the V1's and 8500's.

Get a Beltronics RX65. Cost me $350 two years ago. Its now half the price because the GX65 came out. Has saved me too many times to count. The Bel 995 is a bit older, so I can't vouch for it

Escort 9500i! saved me so many times! dont leave home without it! picks laser up! it has a faste reaction time than the V1 but by like .001 of a second, only thing nice about the v1 is it tells you what direction the piggy is comming from!
