Default "normal" oil pressure?

Noticed cruising on the highway yesterday at about 60 the pressure was reading about 40, i think its about the same around town. And crusing at 75-80mph it was up around 50 maybe 55? Is this normal or dangerous at all

No its normal. at idle you should be around 30-40 and then on up when the engine RPMs increase. The old saing is 10PSI for every 1K of RPMs.

Sounds about right to me. Mine's about 40-43 at highway speeds (60'ish) and climbs as the rpm's increase.

BTW, was your car up to temperature when you took the readings? If that's the warm readings, then I think it's dead on. If it's cold, it's a little low.

I guess i'm using the dash gauge so i don't know how reliable that is, but i usally sit right at 50-55 while under load - bout 60-65 on the highway. and at WOT i have seen 70.

Normally on a cold start I am somewhere between 60-65 then once the car is warm about 40 but that is using the dash gauge

If its not 0 and not 100, I wouldn't worry. GM gauges aren't known for being accurate.

mine always sits above 40, and pegs the needle at redline, but I don't pay much attention to the accuracy as stated above
