Default 97 LS-1 Corvette heads question

I came across a good deal on some 97 corvette heads for my 2002 LS-1 motor. I want to have some heads ported and was wondering if it would be better to work the 02 heads or the 97 ones. I just want to make sure that I will not run into any problems if I decide to port the 97 heads. I am new to this so any opinions please. If I sent heads off to be worked will most places core exchange different years?

97 heads use different valve covers and coil pack holder arrangements. 97 castings dont flow as well as 2002 for several reasons. I would port your 02 castings or get a core set of 2000+ castings to work.

call the shop about the core issue, some have a $900 on 97-98 heads, and $600 on the newer heads.

They might be willing to swap them even, send you newer ones for some 97 cores,

Ryan.
