Be honest how reliable is it.........
to install a new cam, I am planning to have a new cam installed, Comp 216/220 in my SS, see sig for other mods. How reliable is this, to take the motor apart and put in a new piece without changing lifters, cam bearings..... I guess what I am saying is in engineering school we always were taught to have matched components, everything must be within tolerance for proper fits, for any new cam you need new bearings, lifters, pushrods..... So my real question is how many miles have you all done on your cam installs and what other stuff did you change with it. I currently have 19k miles on my 2002 SS about 4k with the 1.85 rockers and TI retainer/ Manley springs from SLP, I have had no problems with this stuff. Is it good enough to do a quality install with someone who knows what they are doing?

Should be pretty reliable as long as everything is installed 100% correct but of course it will never be as reliable as keeping your motor stock. You should be fine though as long as you have the proper spring upgrade and other valvetrain upgrades necessary for an aftermarket cam swap!!

You should be fine, but what is the lift on this new cam?
The 1.85 rockers might be a little much, but this doesn't sound like a big cam.
You cannot replace cam bearings in car, you really dont have to worry about the clearances there is a few thousands.
The oil pressure will supply the "chush" between the cam & bearings .

es: We use stock lifters/stock cam bearings all the time. No need in tearing it down just to replace cam bearings. Now if you wanted to go forged/stroker combination, then we'll change the cam bearings

That cam is pretty easy on the valvetrain...it should be pretty reliable and a great cam for a daily driver. I agree with using the 1.85 ratio rockers to help it on the top end.
Should run pretty well on stock PCM tuning also, but will still need tuning to get the most out of it.

I installed that cam in my car with 20000miles, its a small cam but a goodie,does have some lope, does work great on the spray, and it pulls all the way up to 6400rpm in my car.
As for your comment on new should be new for tolorance, , Why the hell did you buy an ls1 car, everyone knows that GM is why out of whack when it comes to clearances/tolorances from the factory.
Just put the cam in that cam is a great street cam I got 31 hp from the cam and tuning, so I was pretty happy.

doesn't it cost less to buy a cam with the right lift and nix the 1.85's?
i like my 224/226 .570/.571 112lsa on my A4. It's pretty docile cept when freezing out its a little cranky. I usually warm up to 100 before driving off anyways since my verter slips to 2000-2500rpm..

Thanks guys for your advice, I am going to do the cam, hopefully I will be around 400 rwhp after the cam and tune, was at 360 but that was with SLP LT's not Kooks and that was also without the TB and pulley running 12.3 A/F.
