Default The inevitable finally happened! 10-bolt Fail twice w/ NEW VIDEO!

Racing over the weekend and I managed to split my 10-bolt carrier in two! Stock 3.42 gears in it, completely stock rear end with a TA Girdle. I broke it on the street while using Nitto's and a 2-step lmao!

I KNEW it was going to break, so PLEASE don't think I was naieve or living on false hopes haha, I already have an 8.8 being built with 4.10's but it just isnt quite finished yet...Should be done the end of the month, or first week of April, but I just thought I would toss this out there haha.

Impressive ... mine just kinda stopped working once day, nothing spectacular of picture-worthy.
Only realized it when I couldn't put down a double-scratch on the pavement.

Also good that you had a backup in the works

lol, I just talked to my mechanic. It will be back up and running with 4.10's tomorrow. Then I get to go to Bandimere Friday and try for 12's! haha

It is a temporary fix ONLY to get me some runs in on Friday. I am COMPLETELY expecting the rear end to blow up on Friday after a couple of runs. When it does, I will push the car out to the highway next to the track and call my free roadside assistance. They will take it to the shop that is building the 8.8 Rear End which will be done in 1 to 2 weeks, and he will just install it and get it ready to go for me, and I have 2 friends that will give me a ride back home lol

I am going to save this link and show all of those idiots out there who purchase a 10-bolt rearend girdle, that they are simply prolonging the inevitable. Never sink money into a 10-bolt. It will still break.

I agree lmao! The TA Girdle was already on the rear when I got the car. I have not put a DIME into reinforcing the 10-bolt! Never will. I went straight for the upgrade.

The 10-bolt is a ticking time bomb for anyone with aftermarket upgrades...and with over 400 RWHP, THIS is what happens.

You have got that right. My bolt on M6 car broke one this week. Well all I broke was the pinion gear, but it had a G2 girdle on it. Same thing as the TA girdle. It was also already on it when I bought the car. I had a spare 3.73 (that also already had a TA girdle) but I hope to have a 12 bolt in it soon. Won't it be nice to really let it rip when we get a good rear in there?

No kidding, any kind of money put into a 10 bolt is a complete waste.

I can't WAIT to be able to go all out with 4.10's in the car and not have to worry!!! (at least not about the rear haha)

That's nice, I hope when mine goes it goes the same way; just blow apart all at once. I think 12s should be easy with some traction; you must be hooking up to do that to the rear.

Dude even at 5000+ DA your car should run low to mid 12's if you hook. If it doesn't there is something wrong. A little of GregRobs's spray and you've got a low 11 car at bandimere man.

That and the DA this weekend should be below 7000 with the temps. It hasn't been above 6500 up here all week.

I am. I threw some Nitto 555R's on the rear and got a Mallory Hyfire ignition box with 2-step. I hook good now, almost as good as a 94 LT1 with a stalled auto, minor bolt on's, 3.73's, and a 150 shot that knows how to drive REALLY well. I kept at his back bumper on launch which is good considering I USED to be 2 cars back off launch and I would creep up on the top end.

I was on stock 3.42's in an M6

I am hoping it will be around 6500 for sure! almost 3000ft lower than it was when I ran my 13.1. The temps in Denver are supposed to be good! Mostly Sunny with high of 61 and a low of 28. I can't wait! PLUS I will be on 4.10's Friday as well AND on Nitto's lol

DONT BUY 4.10's FOR A 10-BOLT!!!

The higher ratio you get in these things, the WEAKER they are!!! If you put 4.10's in there, all you did was take a ticking time bomb that had 5 minutes left on the timer, and knocked it down to 2 and a half! The teeth are weaker the higher up you go and all you did was expedite the process!

Take that money and save it for something better!!! Seriously!
