Exclamation Need a Nice Juicy Tire for 17x11 wheel...

There's lots of new tires out there compared to what we've had to choose from over the past few years...

I'm looking for a good fat juicy tire for my 17x11 ZR1. Something with some good fat sidewall, I hate a flat sidewall on a wide tire.

I'm not afraid to go with a drag radial if I need to, although a street tire is fine. It's not driven much.

Nitto has some new styles: NT-05R and such...

Just curious, I'd like to run a 335/30/17, but a 315/35/17 will probably be what I'm limited to...

Thanks

-Rick

How much power and what trans? The mickey t has been well into the 8's so let's call that one the king of 315's. The hoosier is comparable also, extremely sticky compound.

Id like to try the new nitto and of course a mickey Thompson drag radial but I just grabbed an school set of BFG Drags. They came with the rims i bought. I consider them old tech but I am excited to try them. I only plan on 400-500 rwhp so I'm sure they will work great. The old nitto 555r treated me ok but its pointless with anything over 550hp. They handle good and wear well but i could spin them at will in low and high gear with a powerglide trans. Instant smoke show under 70 mph at wot.

I think I will like these old BFG's. They worked well for my buddy's 500+ HP 383. They dstroyed his 10 bolt rear too... hahahaha left us stranded 150 miles from home

Well, the Nitto 555R is too narrow. I'm not pushing too much power, just looking for a nice looking tire.

Look into the Toyo Proxes TQ 315/35/17. Correct width (unlike the Nitto), with a bit softer of a compound, but still lasts a good amount longer than a BFG or MT drag radial would.

I just got me a set of 315x35x17 MT for my ZR1s DD. They are a real nice fat tire, and they work to. you cant go wrong with a MT.

Looking at the Nitto NT555 (Not the NT555R)... 315/35/17

They have good reviews, look like a more street friendly tire. Anyone have any thoughts on these? I can get a set of 2 shipped for $377...

EDIT: I thought you said 555R. I have no idea about the 555 tire.

How about a MT 295/45/17? I just mounted a pair on my 17x11 ZR1s and IMO they look a lot meaner than the MT 315s I had.

M/T's hook up and move out like stated above, but they are really overkill for most cars. They're expensive and they wear out super fast too, so they wouldnt be my first choice for a street car, especially one that isn't making a lot of power-it's just a waste. Hoosier is in the same boat.

555's only belong on the front of Fbody's IMO, decent on the street, but really mediocre all around performance for the amount the cost.

555R's run narrow, but are a great street/strip tire. People underestimate them too for some reason, I've seen them go into the 10's before without traction issue, but a lot of people seem to bitch about them...I've personally had great luck with them and they last probably one of the longest amounts of time/miles compared to other DR's. I picked up m last set from Discount Tire Direct (315's/35's) for $350 shipped.

NT05R's look like a beast of a tire, and don't run narrow like the 555R's (555R's are the only Nitto that run a little narrow, not their entire lineup like many think.) People seem to really like these and I havent read much bad about them, but I have no personal experience with them, however.

stay clear of Sumitomo's...they're cheap for a reason...The only good thing I can say about them is that they're cheap, and they put out A LOT of smoke

One last thing: I can't say enough good things about Discount Tire Direct. They have a super knowledgable staff, and the absolute lowest prices. Check out their website, the tire prices may seem a little high at first, but remember, it has free (and many times same day!) shipping that usually takes about 2 days to get to your door. They'll also beat anybody else shipped prices if you find somewhere cheaper (I've probably bought 10 sets of tires through them for various vehicles and i've only found a shipped price cheaper once and it was only a few dollars-I told DTD about it and they beat their price by $10 or so I believe). I've dealt with many online tire places and these guys are the best by far IMO...definately give them a try. I'm not paid, sponsored by them or anything like that, I'm just a happy customer!

Interesting. Discount tire zone is where I got my 555R's last summer. Discount tire direct has their prices beat by three bucks a tire. I thought I had the cheapest place around, guess not.

Anyway, as he said before, I personally think the 555R is a great tire. I have no issues with them whatsoever, and for how long they last/how well they hook on the street they are tough to beat. I will buy some again this summer, and will most likely keep buying them.

Discount Tire direct has them for $388 shipped on their site, someone else might have a sale going on, not sure.

The other nice thing about DTD is they have an ebay store. On ebay a lot of times you'll get 10% off coupons to use on one item, other discounts, ebay bucks, ect. all of which work in their tire store if you use paypal.

I just picked up a set of 275/40/17 tires for the front of my car last week through their ebay store. They had them marked down to $138 a tire, I used a 10% off coupon, making them $124.20 a piece shipped. On top of that, it was "triple ebay bucks day" so I got aorund $8.xx back in ebay bucks (money to spend on ebay)

Crazy good deals out there if you hutn around a little and play the game...

Ive been running the 555s in 315/35-17 for a little while now, and im pretty happy with them. They are an inch WIDER than the Rs in the same size, and they wear very well.. Traction is pretty damn good in my stalled auto as well.

I actually just ordered a new 315/35 (to match the one that they just replaced due to a nail) and new fronts for my car as well as a full set for my wife's car.

With Discount Tire Direct, the replacement certificates are WELL worth it too!! Get a nail hole or other damage that cant be fixed, and they order you a new one, simple as that.

Heres some pics installed, and comparison shots. And no, they dont stick out, just a bad camera angle.

Looks like I'm gonna order from DTD... $420.01 shipped for the Nitto NT555 315/35/17 (2)

It's a street car, I don't really race, I have no use for a Drag Radial really... I think this will be a good choice. Plus, these will sorta match what I'm running up front.

Also, I have a set of ZR1's I'll be cutting up and building an air hose reel out of, along with a water hose reel (:

BTW... the ZR1 wheels I have, the 17x11, the wheel measures 12" from edge to edge, is this normal?

The set is an OEM Corvette ZR1 set... Not sure if that matters much.

That actually matters ALOT. The "Corvette A-molds" have two styles: 1) ZR1 2) Grand Sport.

The OEM C4 ZR1 wheels have rear wheel offsets of 36mm, while the C4 Grand Sport have rear wheel offsets of 50mm. For better fitment and less modification to your inner wheel wells, you will want the Grand Sport offset. Of course, unless you do not mind cutting up your wheel well.

This is probably why more people get fucked when they go to buy "ZR1" wheels...
