Default security light

alright its been 2 months since i bought my 99 z28 and ever since i bought it it has shad the yellow security light on what has to be done to take it off and why is it on???

first things first, get the car scanned and let us know what code it reads, then we will be btter informed to help you out. what mods does the car have? has it ever been tuned?

VATS System. Vehicle Anti Theft System. You are on borrowed time before the car stops recognizing the key and will not start. You can try cleaning the pick ups on the key.

I would suggest trying the spare key or searching for the "Vats bypass"

mine just starting doing this today too, i tried my spare key and it didn't help, i had my ecu tuned by frost and i thought the VAT's was supposed to be deleted? don't know what to do, my wifes grand am went thru this too and it only got worse, i tried doing the bypass and now the light just stays on too

VATS delete is for SWAPS with no BCM's.... I can't program out the fact that the BCM is not seeing the resistive pellet in your key and dis-allowing the starter because it's not in the PCM at all.

ok, i have a new ignition lock cylinder on the way, from what i read that,s usually the problem, i tried my spare key and the light is still on

did the new lock cylinder fixed the problem? Wanting to know because my car now has the security light and i have already tried the spare and no change.

the problem is still there damn tryed the spare key lightly used a wire brush on both keys now they are just shiney lol and i also blew some computer dust remover spray in the key hole and still the same light even diconnected the battery fo 15 min

I bet it's the lock cylinder. Happened to my '97Z as well...
