I installed a 2000 rack on my 94 z28. I got it all hooked up, i used the LT1 steering shaft. Now they wont align my car cause they said they cant make the steering wheel straight so something has to be installed wrong. Now do i need the LS1 steering shaft with this? will this help my issue? I did a little research before i installed the LS1 rack and i found that the steering wheel not being straight could be fixed in the alignment. He wont do it though.
Lemme know what i need to do to get this rack working right. Otherwise i just guess ill go back to an LT1 rack. Thanks guys

I'm pretty sure you need an ls1 steering shaft. I was looking into putting an ls1 steering shaft on my lt1 and you have to pull it apart to make it straight with the lt1.

If your using a LS1 steering rack YOU MUST USE the LSX steering shaft!!!

If you changed out the rack, then you should not need the LS1 steering shaft. Now, if you changed the steering column, then yes you do.

my shaft lined up fine. turns perfect. but the alignment guy will not align it cause it moves the steering wheel. now does the ls1 steering shaft line back up the steering wheel? or is it the steering column and steering wheel i need?

The LS1 shaft is clocked differently as in the master spline (flat side) is located at a different spot. The shaft will bring the wheel back straight but you will still need to have an alignment done to get the toe set properly. When I did my swap I know the toe was out a few turns on each side don't remember if it was in or out though.

So you can swap to a LS1.

Ohh...so this thread is about swapping the rack along with the k-member....then attaching it to the shaft/column. I gotcha. I thought people were swapping racks as some kinda steering upgrade.

Stock works fine, if you take care of it.

What if you got it aligned so everything is zero'd out and then pull your steering wheel and align it straight? Just a thought if all the issue is that the steering wheel is crooked but alignment is good...

I thought the steering wheel had a keyway.
The LS1 Rack & Linkage is a good upgrade for clearance.

So with an LT1 engine and a swap to the LS1 rack and I-shaft, one would have more header clearance? Sounds good.
