To start off, I don't know a lot about these cars. My friend has a 99'TA automatic. It's a heads/cam car, with heads, ls6 intake, 12 bolt with 3.42's, 3500 yank converter and your popular mods.

We race almost all 1/8 mile around here. The car was running 7.30's before the 4l60e started giving trouble. He never drives the car except to shows and at the track which it's trailered to. They've started a 7.0 Pro Tree index class here.

He contacted Rossler Transmissions and was going to go with a TH350, they talked him into a Power Glide since it's not street driven hardly ever. So, he's gonna do that with a PTC converter that will stall 3500 foot brake and 4200 on the trans brake. Going to 4.56 gears in the rear.

Do you think this is a wise decision? Do you think this could get him in the 7.0 range without a power adder?

Thanks

Im not too familiar with auto transmissions, but I would make sure with that high of a gear that he will be able to finish the 1/8 without going to the next gear at the very end of the track. If you go to the transmission section on here Im pretty sure there is a gear calculator to tell what your MPH will be with different gears and trans.

The glide will already be in 2nd gear (high gear) halfway down the track. The car will probably only run 97-100 MPH so the 4.56's will be fine for the 1/8 mile. I think the car will make the 7.0 mark considering you're going to a better suited gear, larger converter, and transbrake. If it comes up short I'm sure some weight reduction can be done to make up for the time.

Thanks guys. That's what I was hoping to hear. Now to figure out what size slicks I can get under this thing. It has Weld 15x8's with 5.5 backspacing.

I used 28x10.5 slicks on a 15x8 rim for a while which worked out fine. However, I use a 15x10 with a 295/55/15 radial which in my opinion is just as good as a slick with none of the drawbacks.

all i know is powerglides are strong ass transmissions and can hold some serious power.
