Ok so once again here are the heads. I am really wondering how bad the valve seats are. Should I take these things apart and see if I can chemically clean the valve seats? If so then what? Should I just go ahead and use some valve lapping compound so I make sure they re seat good? What has been your experience when faced with this type of situation? My instinct tells me I should take them apart and clean them with some brake cleaner or something to get this crap off and then use some valve lapping compound and re seat these things. They all look like this. Let me know what your thoughts are. Here's the pics

Really you think I should go that far hu. Man I was really hoping to avoid having to use anyone for anything else for now. Seeing how my luck has been you dont think just cleaning them and lapping the valves will do it? 2K miles on them like this. Intake gasket was leaking on the lower part of the intake flange in the lifter valley. Thats what all the crud is from.

have you pushed the valves down to see what the seats look like? They probably are fine. use some carb cleaner and a brush to clean the chambers.

Yea I already cleaned the chambers but I have not compressed the valves down to look at the seats. I still need to get a tool to be able to remove them. I'm gonna go get one tomarrow and take a look at the seats first.

only take one valve out... if you take more out and don't know where they came out of you WILL need a valve job. Just pull one intake and one exhaust...

If it were me all I'd do is put a spark plug in, fill chambers with mineral spirits and see if it leaks. If it doesn't then I'd put them on.

I did fill them with carb cleaner to let it soak while cleaning and nothing showed up in the runners. I will check it Saturday with mineral spirits and look closer to see what happens. I amy even pull one or teo valves and take a look. Yea I had no plan on doing more than one ata time but I did buy a valve tray the other day that would keep them orginaized.
