Newb here and ? about price for LS1
I'm new to this site and had a question as far as how much to pay for a wrecked 98 camaro with a good drivetrain. It has long tubes, borlas exhaust, ls6 intake, cam (don't know what it is) and 100 shot. 124,000 miles with 4l60e with high stall and shift kit. It ran 11.3's on 100 shot. I'm wanting to put this in a 79 mustang coupe. I don't know much about the chevy's so I don't know how much to pay for it. From what I was told from a couple of people who knew the car, it ran really good so I don't know. What do ya'll think?

98's are the year to avoid from what i've read. Slight differences in the block and computer make it less desirable. With that many miles on a 98 i wouldn't pay too much. Figure you see ls1's in that mile rage for about 2k depending on location. whats the asking price?

Should be worth 2-3k pending on how much parts are salvagable. 98 computer is really your only down fall but unless your going really extreme with it nothing to worry about.

As long as you can get a good deal, i wouldn't "avoid" it, based on year. I have two ls1's that i got from 98 t/a's for my swaps and tuned them myself with no prob. Another thing to consider is, if you snag it you won't have to run around looking for parts as i have.

Yeah, I had to gather pieces for a mach 1 v4 swap and it was a pita. It nickel and dimed me to death. He wants 2700 for it but I think I can sell the headers and borla exhaust and maybe the interior and recoupe some of my money.

You can never know in what shape a motor is internally just by looking at it, unless the person will let you rip it apart before you buy it, which i strongly doubt they will let you do...and what camaro/trans-am/vette hasn't been ragged on.

good point about the raced motor. But he's running 100 shot, so its a bit conservative. I wouldn't consider the money for a kit for anything less than 150shot. I would buy it and romp on it till it breaks. If you get a good dyno tune it will last longer as well as make more power.
