Well, I figured I better make a seperate thread for this topic before I completely hijacked the other thread and get one of these. ---> :hijack:

I'm organizing a road trip to drive up the Going to the Sun Road in the Glacier National Park in Northwest Montana.

It's still in the rough planning stages at this time, but it looks like it'll be happening around early to mid August. The Crater Lake and Keen Nah (SP?) cruises already have been planned for June and July so I don't want to compete with those dates. I'll be starting college August 25th so that (and weather) pretty much narrows down the window of opportunity for this road trip to happen.

I'll look into getting all the details (food, gas, lodging, etc) rounded up. First however, I just need I finish closing on my house in Anaconda, MT next week. (waiting, waiting, waiting... :bang:)

If anyone is interested, or has any suggestions about the trip, please post them up here. I'll consolidate the details and edit them into this first post as I go. That way anyone that hears about this later on won't have to piece all the info together from the entire thread. I'l also put the word out on other boards that have shown an interest in this trip. (http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7677). Hopefully that will help boost the number of people going on this cruise. Given the location in the US, I'm not expecting a very big turnout. However, I wouldn't mind if I was way off base and we were able to get a big group together. That'd be sweet!

Trip date:
Aug 6-7, 13-14 or 20-21 (still TBD)

RSVP list:
#1) GoMopar440, Anaconda, MT
#2) Tyler_LS1
#3) code4

Maybe able to go list:
My dad ('10 Synergy Green Camaro), Pueblo, CO

Hopefully I'll be able to focus on the trip next week. All this house stuff has my head spinning right now.

Tyler, I'll pencil you in for now. No commitment required, so if the final date doesn't work out for you once it's settled, just let me know.

Hey Mikey, got any tips for those of us that haven't been there before?

Bring a camera and tire chains lol... you never know what kind of weather you'll get up there and it changes fast. Never know what kind of game you'll see but you're garanteed to see a lot of it. Before global warming, that road used to only be open for a couple months of the year. I was born/raised in Missoula.

Stop and look at the water falls, runoff areas. There are a few places that have some extremely deep water pools. During the spring runoff, the glacial water is so cold and clear you see all the way to the bottom, like looking through glass. It's pretty cool. :thumb:

I've been in the Vancouver/Portland area since 96'. Moved out here to go back to school and ended up staying. I miss the laid-back lifestyle of Montana sometimes though.

See alot of these cars go by, as I live on the hwy just before glacier. Get alot of cars from canada and all over for this one. Seen 4 lotus's, a nissan skyline, and a number of rather rare cars this last summer. I wouldn't mind finding them all in one place so I can see em up close and personal. They probubly meet up in whitefish somewhere.

Say, for the guys that don't have a location listed in your profile, could you give me an idea where you're coming from? It would help me plan a meet up point.

It sounds like the road can be started from either direction so we'd probably start from wherever the majority of people were coming from (probably the West side). Unless you WA & OR guys want to start at the East end so you'd be closer to home at the end of the road. What are your thoughts on it? I'm open to ideas at this point.

FWIW: The house is looking like it'll be closing in a week or two now. This waiting is just making my head want to ... :bomb:
