Depending on the cam you choose you shouldnt have to flycut. I believe with flat tops and stock gaskets the TSP 231/236 cam is the biggest you can go with out cutting.

Yea depends on what cam you use... I have an 6.0 LQ9 block with flat tops and stock gasket .051 crush and I am running a bigger cam than listed above without PTV issues... Did not fly cut either....

FWIW....Geoff Skinner that owns EPS speced and cut it for me....

Just because the cam is bigger in duration doesn't have much that much bearing on PTV. Depending on the valve events and where the valve is opening or closing compared to the piston being at TDC.

Yes, Geoff is the man on getting you a cam to make good power from what you have. My cam is spec'd from him also.

Anytime you keep the valve open for a long period of time you have more PTV issues...Def more so than total lift...

with that being said I also understand that the cam as a whole has more variables than duration alone...although I never said that mine has more duration so mine is bigger...

Either way...Geoff is the man

with LS2 flat tops, i had to definitely flycut on a 24x/24x, .620 &110 LSA...
That's with stock head gasket and unmilled LS3 heads. I also tried the stock dish piston and that hit also, but not to the same degree, of course.
Fly cutting isn't a huge deal, but it does take some time to do it properly. You can probably get a cam spec'd that DOESN't require flycutting and achieve the same (or close) HP/Tq. on a street car/truck.
