Not an LS1, but my '79 Z had a 232/232 on a 108 lsa cam. 350 cid SBC not an LS1. 4spd w/ 4:11 gears. It did have power brakes, power steering and they worked well. It did not have air conditioning.
That car was bad *** on the street. Believe it or not, it idled kind of rough.
OK, enough of my reminiscing. I think you could do 108 or 110 on the street in an LS1..tuning is everything. With a 108 LSA your going to have a pretty rough idle. I think engine vacuum is more a function of camshaft duration than LSA. Your brakes, air, ect...should be fine.
You may want to call one of the sponser that deals with the extreme performance camshafts. TSP, TR, or Futral could probably advise.

I have had the TR230 and 3500 stall, now Have a custom Comp (in sig) with 4600 stall.... it's my daily driver.
Just got ot get a tuner who can work on the idle, cold start etc.

It is not just the lsa which makes a cam rough but the total overlap. The overlap is a function of two things, your duration numbers for the intake and exhaust lobes and the lsa. A 224/224 110lsa cam has the same amount of overlap as a 228/228 114 lsa cam. That being said I run a 230/236 107lsa cam in my daily driver and it is more then fine for its use. Like said before, it is all in the tune. I happen to have ls1 edit and be quite handy with it. Without a tune, forgedaboudit.

ok....well what I'm planning to have ground is a:
244/248 duration, 0.575"/0.575" lift, 110LSA
I was going to have comp grind it with their XRE lobe to get the most out of it. The cam will go in a 388 (all bore), M6 car, with 3.73s. (LS1Edit is ready to go ).

how does it drive? what kind of HP/TQ numbers did you get and where did they peak at (maxHP/maxTQ RPM)?

If I was you I would choose a much larger cam. Bigger cams seem to be making much bigger power these days. Look at thunders stock headed 242/248 110lsa cam making 450+rwhp with stock heads. When you designate an xe-r lobe the amount of duration you choose will designate the lift. In other words, xe-r lobes of 244 or 248 will be well over .600" lift. Good luck.

really? LARGER
damn (about the xe-r lobe = high lift)......I don't want to go over ~0.580-0.590" lift as I don't see it being that big of a gain in HP for the increased valve spring stress...

soon to put my motor together and find out what 107 (Grandam Cup cam) is like. Spin it till it quits making power. The only thing is the LS6 springs that come on the heads were 1mm from coil bind.

well I ordered my cam tonight. It is a custom grind by Comp that will be a:
244/252 duration, 0.580"/0.580" lift, 110LSA
its not an XE-R lobe but it seems to be close.....
My intake lobe's advertised (0.006" lift) duration is 297 vs. the XE-Rs is 293. My exhaust lobe is rated at 305 duration (0.006" lift) which the XE-R does not even go near (stops at 244 @ 0.050").
I can't wait to see what this thing does
