Default Dropping V8 into a v6 body?

Well i'm currently looking for a decent roller and all i can find thats not way overpriced (4k+ -_-) is v6 bodys. I have a Ls1 / t56 currently from my formula that was in an accident, and since the frame rails are bent/crumpled iv'e been browsing around before i take it to a frame shop.

I'm currently looking at a 98 black v6 body and the dude wants only 1500 for it, in great condition with good title and still runs (rough though).

But all in all, How big of a job is it replacing the v6 with the v8 (wiring/mounts/ect?)

Any input is appreciated, thanks
- Colin

Input:

If you want to be just like factory. Good Luck.

If you want to make a race car out of it. Not so hard.

Really depends on what you want. I suggest start combing engine related sections.

Did you keep the PCM and ECM from the T/A? A friend did this swap and the car fired up right away.

its not hard at all i did a swap before on a 2000 firebird and put an ls1 in it. i had to get a new k-member i got a bmr one, you don't have to change the fuel system, you can keep the v6 d/s. I'm having a hard time remembering, but it wasn't hard its basically plug and go, just get the engine ecu harness and trans and your basically good to go almost.

Like what I was stabbing at. With the new harnesses out there most capable can get the swap done, but doing it "right" will take time and effort and $$$.

FYI LS Fbodies have been dropping their values like crazy, older stuff going in the 5's to 8k and even 2002's bearly getting over 10k.

Thats a pretty good link, not sure if there was a sticky on it, but a good one for sure. Just make sure that if you have emissions that you are complient and in most states you need to pass a scannable emissions so make sure all SES/DTC codes are resolved.

A lot of things need to be changed for a LS to go into a V6 body.

Cradle, maybe the Trans Crossmember, Steering Rack & Linkage, slightly modify Fuel System, Engine Wiring Harness and PCM. If you want to get picky then the Cluster.
Not really that bad.

None of mine have ever made it to sticky's..I think I'd make too many of the Sponsors cry..

I'll FWD this to some mods, maybe we can see if that can get posted up. IMO its a pretty good, detailed description on what is needed and why. With pics no less.

It wont be so hard since you have a donor car , many people have done this with ease.. believe me If I found an LS1 donor car , Id jump all over it so I could drop a V8 in my car ..

See here is the thing with that.

In Connecticut we need to have a scanable emissions test for ANYTHING 1996+ as the switch to ODBII was made.

Anything 1995 OR older must got on a roller emission.

Since this VIN of the v6 car is for v6 emissions, you may get screwed with your trying to do this swap. We had a guy throw in a GM ODBI style motor in a 2002 BMW and since the computer does not communicate he could not complete the registration process and had to find another complete ODBII complient swap!!!

To say the least!

It's not about "dropping an LS1" into a V6 car, as much as it is dropping a V6 car over an LS1 powertrain. In other words, the idea is to get an LS1 powertrain drop out, complete with the K-member and wiring, and hoisting it up into the V6 body. Do a search and you'll see the complete story regarding wiring, PCM, fuel system, gauges, etc.
