Default newby questions

I am new at posting in this section but have been browsing the board for a few months.I am building a 73 camaro and using a 2001 LS1/M6.I have a few questions before I build my engine. Here's what I have so far,3.73 gears,RAM VDS clutch, above engine/trans,aluminum driveshaft,1 3/4 headers and true dual 2 1/2 with no cats.
Can the stock powdered metal rod beams be polished and shot peened?
I see different versions of MAFTs,how do I know which to use?If I go to 85mm or ported MAF,will the computer tuning take care of that change?
Being a 2001 motor,does this mean I have the LS6 intake?
I see talk concerning the stock oil pump and timing set,are these weak links I should upgrade? And to what if so?
I am going to have the combustion chambers pollished/cleaned up and ports matched and possibly up the valves to 2.02/1.57.Which cam would work well with these parts listed and as a daily driver?I would like to get decent mileage in the 20 plus mpg range, but also hoping for solid 12 second 1/4 or better.
Yes ,I am going to upgrade the valve springs to match the cams lift, any recommendations there appreciated also.
This place is a great source.
Thanks in advance,Joe

Yes it is very likely that you have an LS6 intake; I think they switched over early in 2001, but that means some 2001s don't have it. I have similar goals for a cam and will probably use the MTI C1 Hammer cam. I sugest sticking with a stock MAF and using O2 sims since you won't have cats. Sorry, can't answer the rest of your questins. Love the look of '73 Camaros, good luck on your project. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
