How many miles on a tank are you getting?

When did you change the; plugs/wires, O2 sensors, air filter, check the cats?

I get about 160-170 per tank.the air filter is new everything else is stock. I was told by a mechanic that I shouldn't have to do a tune up until 100k.

1. Get another mechanic.
2. Do a tune up.

Include O2 sensors in your tune up. Even if they have not failed enough to trow a code it can still kill your milage

Not being a dick but, learning to drive better will certainly help. As when your looking for MPG you need to train yourself to skip gears, no rpm over 2k, no WOT. Let the car get up to speed gradually. Also taking out unneeded weight will help.

Case in point, my wife gets 19-20 MPG in her Chevy HHR (Auto, 4 cyl), mostly in city but does highway. So maybe 70/30 mix. We took a 4 hr trip to VT last weekend and with me driving and having the extra weight of her, our dog, and suitcases/supplies. I managed 26.5 MPG on the way north and ave 28.0 MPG going south. Peaked both times @ 29.0 Going north had many, many hills so the 1.5 is considered normal, also we have winter gas still with Ethenol which does not help.

If we had some fuel from New Jersey, on average we see a 1.5-2.0 mpg increase in economy.

So take your time and work on your driving habits, as well as a basic tune up.

Do the tuneup as stated, and before you do that I'd go ahead and do a Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner treatment. Run a search on it and you'll find the write up for it. Are you running premium gas?? I've heard of people getting bad gas in these, but not in stock cars like yours. Also make sure you get your fuel filter replaced while you have the car in for the tuneup.

My 2000 M6 gets 18 city/23 highway.

KevinR is right on both 1 and 2

I would definitely get a FULL TUNE-UP at a shop that you can trust and see how that works for you.

Also, what Octane do you normally run ? and where do you buy your Fuel ?
Could make a slight difference.

If you are really trying to save money on fuel... you must keep your foot out of it. But seriously, that like giving a 5 year old a Popsicle on a summer day and telling them not to eat it. Good Luck man.

What kind of driving do you do? IF you do highway that is horrible. But if its all city and your driving it hard, I would not consider it unreasonable. Although a tune up would probable help.

We buy these cars to have fun, I sold my 40+MPG civic so I could smile and enjoy my car.

It sounds like some new O2 sensors would help. Even basic stuff, how dirty is your air filter?

yikes 13.3 seems low. I play around quite a bit and still get 210 to 220 miles out of a tank. Can get mid 20's mpg if I'm just cruising on the highway

I just did a full tune up, wires, o2 sensors, plugs, fuel filter, oil, and i did the mopar cumbustion chamber cleaner about 3 weekends ago. Car runs good but my gas milage went to crap, i was getting worse gas milage then when i was open headers. It seems to be getting better now idk if the computer had to correct itself on the AF ratio or what. I think its important to do a tune up every year on our cars since they seem to get a little more wear and tear especially if you race or rag on your car. You can pick up a plug and wire package from a sponsor on here for 60 bucks. Pick up some o2 sensors on ebay for about 40, if you have headers get the 13111 bosch sensors since they have longer cords. I picked some up on ebay for 100 shipped. Fuel filter at auto zone for about 6 or 7 bucks and then drop by your chrysler/dodge dealer and pick up a can of mopar combustion chamber cleaner, its a foam that goes in through any vacuum hose(i used the pcv hose thats right in front of the intake next to the throttle body) and will clean your top end.

My car had 150k miles when i did the mccc on the top end and it didnt smoke alot if any at all, the motor on my car seems to have had good maintenance in its past though.

PM me if you have any questions. I got my mopar cleaner for 5 bucks a can from my dealership since they dnt sell very much to mopar customers i guess so they guy at the counter hooked it up, the cans usually run at about 10-12 dollars.
