Default oil pressure ?'s

I have a '98 Trans am when the engine is cold it will hold 40 psi of oil pressure. After it gets up to temperature it holds 30 psi of oil pressure. I don't think it runs hot it stays on the mark between 160 and 210 unless I idle for a few minutes then It will go up but never over the 210 mark. I run valvoline blend 10w-30. Thank you for the help. this is a really great site with very knowlegable people.

Have your gauges checked. The factory ones are not known for their razor precision. As many will tell you they are idiot gauges. After you do this, then you can go up the line to the oiling system, but I doubt you have a problem there. I would ask on the board about any Trouble Service Bulletins (TSB), and dscribe what you are having.

My '98 Z 28 idles at 60 PSI when cold, 40 when hot, I have never seen it below 40. Temp never gets anywhere close to 200 either. The Temp gauge on the 98's is an actual gauge, it was after '98 that GM changed to the inaccurate "idiot" style of Temp gauge to get people to stop bringing them to dealerships because they were worried about the variations in temp.

If your oil pressure gauge is working correctly (they fail rarely) then I would say your pressure is a bit on the low side, but I am not a tech.

thank you for all the information. Maybe it's time for a new engine it has 90,000 miles on it.
