Default Just Bought 99 Trans am M6

as the title says.

6 spd. hurst short throw. chokemaster cat back. k an n air filter.

but. 157k on the odo. overhauled trans. new clutch.

i went from an 03 imp to this beast. im lovin it. i need to replace the antenna though. i can hear the motor but it doesnt move. oil pump and sending unit will be replaced this weekend as well. for reliability because it twitches between the second line and 40 psi when warm at idle. i want 40 psi at idle and no twitching. if possible.

paint looks great for the miles. nothin is broken on the interior.thank god.

Nope. Nothing specific about the '98s at all in this regard. '98-'00 all use the same pump. Somehow the internet rumor developed that it's a "98 problem", but it is not specific to only that year, never has been.

Failures are very uncommon as compared to the amount of cars built. And these failures weren't due to age/mileage (all the ones I've known about happened at rather low mileages). The problem was never low oil pressure, it was sudden zero oil pressue, normally with no warning signs at all (sticking relief valve leading to a zero pressure condition).

Lots of people upgrade the oil pump during a cam swap, since a great deal of the work is already done at that point.

Personally, I would start by replacing the sending unit and see if that corrects the gage condition. At 157k (and unknown care/maintenace), there are also other internal engine issues that could cause low oil pressure. A pump replacement may do nothing to bring pressure up if the engine is worn.

RPM Ws6 you are correct, But ive seen several ls cars with lower oil pressure put a new pump in an it would increase their idle an wot pressures.. I agree if its a worn out engine nothing will help the pressure except a rebuild.
