Default issue at idle

sometimes at a complete stop my car will start dropping in rpms to almost about 3k and ill put the car in neutral then back into drive when i start moving again (A4) and it will be fine. Yesterday i was messing around in a parking lot and the car completely shut off. the car is completely stock besides a lid. any ideas of what this would be???

I am going to assume you mean 300 and not 3000. Maybe the IAC taking a dump on you.

I would agree but only if this is a cold engine problem, but if its a completely dead IAC, then its possible.

check for vaccum leaks...you'll be surprised how a pin size hole can make your car fall on it's face...going in reverse or just coasting from a stop rpms drop down to 300 rpm.. it feels like it wants to stall and sometimes will..vaccum leak...that's what mine was

where did you end up finding your vacuum leak?

It was the hose where your pcv valve goes into your intake. (bottom left side of intake) It's about a 3 or 4" hose. It was no bigger than a pin hole, but enough to stall it out once and drop the rpms at stops and while coasting in drive and reverse.

I'm having a REAL similiar problem but mine is only when the car is cold. its almost as if the car is loading up or something...like its choking it to much or something. What is that IAC your talking about?
