Default LS7 Lifter

I searched this and came up with about 10 different answers.

What is the difference..if any..with the LS7 Lifter vs the stock regular GM Lifters with the Lifter Cup depth.

Thanks.

I know for a fact that the ls7 lifter has replaced the OEM part # for stock ls1 lifter if that means anything to you. otherwise, you might have to find someone with both for anything more in depth.

Hey Merv,

for what its worth... Geoff from EPS told me to run 7.400 push rods if I run LS7 lifters and 1.425 if I run stock lifters....

So I assume there must be some difference....

I know there is a difference..if I had my Heads still off I would pull one of my LS7's and take a stock one and measure them both to end the questioning..lol..

iirc

stock ls2 with 243 heads and "ls2 lifters" run a 7.4 pushrod.
when i had a lifter fail i went to ls7 lifters.
pushrod length for 0 lash was 7.300.
bought a 7.350 comp cam pushrod, added the .050 for preload.

seems as though the lifter cup in the ls7 .050 higher.
you should be using a pushrod length checker though to figure out your 0 lash and add to that for preload.

here is a picture of the 2.

It's supposed to be a .050 difference in the cup, (cup in the lifter .050 deeper). I'm not sure as compared to the other LSX model lifters, but I know compared to LT1 lifters, they require a .050 longer than stock pushrod.

Good pics.
I set mine between .060-.100 preload.. .080 is the target from what I've read. I measured with a Pushrod Tool the other day and it turned out I needed a 7.375" one.

For what it's worth, in the winter of 2009 I did my trickflow heads and vrx5 cam. When I pulled them out I had the new style on the intake and the old style on the exhaust side. My car was stock and came from GM that way. My car is a 2001.

So does it seem that the ls7 lifter is .050 higher, or is it .050 higher???

Bumping this one up..I was asked this earlier and found some good info to clear it up.

LS7 on the LEFT, stock on the RIGHT

Here is another one..

So gentlemen what we conclude here is the actual LS7 Lifter is .050" TALLER than the stock Lifter, and requires a .050" SHORTER PUSHROD.

However to throw a curve ball in here..there are stock replacement lifters that are out there that look like LS7 Lifters, but the Cup is stock height. You just have to pay attention to detail when you look.
