Hey guys have a 95 TA and am in the middle of putting in new clutch/pp, etc. I bought the clutch kit from Autozone and it came with 2 pilot bearings. One is more of a bushing and is tapered on one end. The other one has needle bearings in it. They are identical diameter, size, etc. Which one would be better to use? I've been searching and haven't found anything. Thanks!

Ok well I finally found the debate thread on here when I googled pilot bearing or bushing and decided to go with the bearing. Now my question is which way does the bearing go? I would assume where the numbers are stamped on it is the back. The bearing sits in it with maybe 1/8' extra on one end. I was assuming where the bearing was flush with it was the front. Can anyone verify this? If I'm right then the pilot bearing that was in there was installed backwards lol

It works either way. Put the tapered end to the rear of the car.

More importantly, make sure the pilot end of the input is fully into the bearing. (don't drive the bearing in the crank more than necessary.)

When I drove a recent bushing in flush, only 2/3 of the tranny input shaft contacted the ID of the bushing. Not good.

When I left the bushing sticking out ~1/4" or so, the input shaft made 100% contact with the ID of the bushing.
