Default cooling system problem

I took my volvo/ls1 for it's first trip to work and have some kind of cooling issue. It was just bubbling water out of the overflow tank. Put a infrared temp gun on it and didn't read anything over 205.

Then I started rethinking what I did and thought maybe I reversed the upper and lower rad hoses.

Looking at pictures, seems like everyone, including me, has the lower hose going to the thermostat housing, and the upper hose going to the water pump line w/o the thermo. This is backwards to everything else I've had where the thermo is on the outlet, and goes to the upper hose.

Is it right to have the thermostat housing hose go to the lower rad hose?

Yep, your correct. LS1`s have the thermostat on the inlet side, unlike most other engines.
