Default lq4/t-56 68 chevelle

hey guys currently selling my T/A nad have a chevelle in the garage and am about to embark on a swap either a t56 with the 8.1l vortech 496 or an ls2 but my question is will a t56 from 93-97 model fbody work with either engine or does it need to be a 98 and newer t56 and also ive only seen a few guys do this 8.1 swap so i think id be better of with just a magnusun supercharger on top of the 6.0 and call it good, it would make as much or more power then the big block l18 and it would be extremely lower in costs in the end for the same usability and performance, so any input and help on mods to make this work will help. I know about the motor mounts, cutting the floor for the t56 and using an impala/caprice fuel tank but thats about all the insight i have for this swap and i dont wanna dive in head first and jsut quit because i cant fully do it myself due to lack of insight so thanks guys for any insight

My personal opinion is to go with the LS2. There just isn't much aftermarket support for the 496. With the money you'd spend chasing your tail trying to make power with the 8.1l, you could investigate the mysteries of turbos or supercharging a 6.0l or you could build a big cubic inch motor. Just my .02.

The t56 will bolt to the 496 as it has the traditional bbc/trans bolt pattern. Now as for the actual buildup of the 496, there is a misconception when it comes to whats available for these engines. First off, Dart is now making and selling their own version of this engine and they have heads. The stock pistons and rods are weak and dont like to rev beyond 5 grand but if you're willing to buy better pistons(regular bbc) and some better rods, combined with a cam(regular bbc hydraulic or solid roller cam can be used by changing the firing order in the pcm), porting the stock heads and intake and you can have the torque and hp of a badass big block, not to mention the wow factor when you pop the hood. I've been collecting parts for a 8100 that I have in my garage which I plan to drop in my uncles 70' Chevelle, its going to be insane.

I am building a LQ9 for my 69 Camaro and allready had the LT1 T56. I had to change the input shaft, mid-plate and bell housing to bolt it to the LQ9.

A ls t56 would be easiest for the lq4 or lq9.
