Default Ping HKE, and other engine builders...break in oil?

I have just completed rebuilding and installed the LS7 in my corvette. I am curious about what oil to use for break in. It's my understading that Mobil 1 is the factory fill, so can I use it for break in?

If not, why not? Even mobil has info on their website that using conventional oil for a new motor is a myth. I do understand that their opinion might be biased.

Has anyone used synthetic for breaking in a new motor, or do you just stick to the tried and true convetional becuase it works?

I'm betting this topic has been beat to death, but I couldn't find much with a search.

Thanks in advance

Tony

We use Joe Gibbs Break-in Oil, and supply 12 quarts of it with every short and long-block we ship!

We used to do the same, and then Shell cut down the levels of ZDDP in their oil, and GM raised the price of the EOS....so Joe Gibbs made good sense/cents. We always had success with the EOS though!

Why do you use these oils instead of mobil 1? Have you ever tried break in with mobil 1

I know what your saying, the last time they said that they were going to cut it off the market maybe 3-4 years ago, I got a case for.... free. So I am still working on using all that. For some reason did Jason call me in the last week or 2?

Generally when I fire it up for the first time, I warm up the motor and drop the fluid and filter.

Agreed, the first 6 quarts is just for a heat cycle or two, then gets changed and the filter cut open and inspected. The 2nd, assuming the filter looks good, can go a few hundred miles on average.
