Default Which size nitto drag radials?

Im looking to get the Nitto NT 555R Drag radials. Yes I know others hook better but i drive this car 6000 miles or more in a year so I want something that lasts longer. I have 18" C6 wheels in the back that are 9.5 wide. I've heard the nittos run narrow so would the 305/35/18 nittos work or should i just stick with the 285/35/18?

285/35/18 on the 9.5's. Ran them on multiple rides.

Run the 305 on the 9.5 wheel. I ran 315-35-17 555R's on my 17x9.5 wheels and they fit pretty good. You are correct the Nittos run quite a bit narrower than other brands. My photobucket account is messed up so i cant post the pic, but i've posted it in other threads, i took a picture of my 315-35-17 Nitto next to the same size BFG drag radial and the BFG had a good 1/2 to 3/4" on the Nitto. People will flame you and tell you not to do it but i know from experience, the 305 will fit better hands down, the 285 is gonna look way small.

The 285 does not look small by far. If you run the 305 on a 9.5 the sidewall will be buldge out. Look in the sticky on this subject. Lot of good info there.

in reference to the Nittos being smaller, check this out...

Here is a 315-35-17 Nitto on my old car, next to a BFG drag radial, also a 315-35-17...

And here is the same 315 Nitto before it was mounted, next to a 275-40-17...

Nittos DO run smaller. Will the 285 work, absolutely, but the 305 will as well and it will not make a difference... just comes down to opinion.

Also notice in the picture how the sidewall is buldging. Useless in a drag radial with that small a sidewall. Just wasting money to run a bigger tire that will never work the way it was intended to work.

yep, but personally i thought the slight bulge looked much better than a 275 Nitto with a lip sticking out past the sidewall. I'm not saying either is the right or wrong size, i'm just getting the point across that nittos run narrow. I would have never thought about running that BFG on a 9.5 wheel, but since the 275 Nitto was gonna be narrow and awkward (in my opinion at least), i went with the 315. The OP asked about this specifically so that's all I was getting at. On a 9.5, the 285 will work great, but so will the 305. Hope this helps Litemup...

I think the 305s would fit. A friend of mine ran 335s on a 10.5 wheel.

alright I think I am going to go with the 305's if everyone thinks those will hook better than the 285s.

Do the 305s...I have had 315s on my 17x9.5s for almost 4 years now.
