I plan on around 750rwhp/700rwtq and I know I need to upgade my clutch (currently Centerforce DFX). What I'd like is some input from guys in this power range and up on a good clutch with good street manners, i.e. pedal feel, chatter, holding power....

My car will mainly see daily street driving with maybe 5-10 1/4 mile runs a year.

Some clutches I have been looking at are but not limited to:
-Spec 3+
-Tex Z or X?
-Mcleod RST or RXT?


Which ones are good?

Which should I stay away from?

Im running the monster stage three and i love it. I know im not pushing 700 plus hp but so far i can say that this is one hell of a clutch. Im sure plenty of others on here will say the same. A stage three is rated at 700 hp but you might look at a stage four or higher.

I'm really leaning towards one of the McCleods, the RST is cheaper and should hold my power level but I should probably go with the RXT to be safe.

I hear the Monsters are more like a On/Off switch and not very good on the street (Stage 3 and up) The price is surely appealing in comparison though.

I've had some recomendations for the Spec twins but have also read some horror stories on Spec!!!

I will be running a Mosnster level 5 for my build its currently being finished up at SNL as soon as I feel the clutch out I will let you know. 04 Goat with a 408/F1-A build hoping for 750+rwhp.

I dont feel my monster stage three is on/off at all. It is a tad heavier than factory but it has that nice solid feel to it. The clutch can be slipped but a little chatter will be felt if slipped excessively. I feel it is a very streetable clutch. I am using the monster 18 pound flywheel as well. I also liked how my monster required no shimming at all. The whole clutch assembly fell into place. The fit and finish is great with this package. Depending on how soon you plan to purchase a clutch i can post a vid of how street friendly my stage three is.

Just to push someone a little farther; I've had my McLeod Single (An master) since 06 and not one problem with it. Bites plenty hard when you snap the clutch and a smooth engagement. No chatter at all. I'd do a McLeod clutch again in a heartbeat.

I run the RXT and its been great so far. My car is a daily driver and cuts 1.4 60's on slicks. My car makes just shy of 650rwhp on spray.

What FW's are you guys running with your RXT's. I know McCleod says you can run your stock but mine has some heat spots and I'd rather not deal with resurfacing and shimming.......

I have a spec flywheel with mine. I got it when it was on sale. It will work with any factory style flywheel.

Not making the power to push this clutch though. Works well for ~650 lol. Im thinking Texas Speed was running one of these but not positive..

Textralila Exo-Skel twin. Daily Driven on a stock short block with heads and cam and now with the 421" motor. If you assemble it correctly and learn how to drive with it it will work very well for years. Mine has been in for @4 years now (not including the time down with the busted motor).

I would run a twin disc setup period. That much torque with a single disc setup is going to have crappy drivability.

Our Stage 3+ is rated to over 900lb.-ft at the crank and is very drivable. Of course if you want to go with a twin then any of our Super-Twin options would easily meet your needs. Let me know if you have any questions about these and I will be happy to assist you. Thanks!

I've had monster level 5, monster 11", and spec 5 and all have held ~750wtq for me. Monsters drove great on the street for me

Obviously a different application, but T56 clutch is T56 clutch. I have a Spec 3+ in mine, held lots of bottle with 879rwtq no problem. It will be staying in with the turbos until it lets go.

How did the 11" compare to the level 5 on the street? I'm planning on ~800whp and drive it on the street a lot.

no diff on the street at all only diff i noticed period was that i had the 18lb fw with the 11" compared to the heavier one with the 5
