Default My speedometer and rpm needles slightly jerk/jump up

Not a huge problem, but when i take a looksie down at my gauges, I dont see any warning lights or anything, but my needles will jump lil bits every 30 seconds.

for example: If im cruising down the highway at 55mph it'll randomly flicker/jump to 58 then back down to 55. Same length on my RPM needle. Although Im not seeing/feeling any changes in my engine response when this happens.

I been told it it might be plug/wires.. distributor.. alternator.. ehh idk im lost

Any help will be appreciated

car only has 25k miles :/

Do you have the stock gauge face on the car?

yes i do, my interior is all original with no modifications, and stock monsoon

I also notice my headlamps/fog lights flicker simultaneously when i drive at night when my needles jump.. not to sure about interior lamps. I hope it narrows it down some

I have this same problem, just not as often. I was wondering if my UD pulley had anything to do with it.

Sounds like an electrical "burp" then. Do you know how many miles are on your engine belt?

I would check all battery connections and grounds.

Hmm my belt does look "dry" and its the original belt only 25k miles, i don't have any UD pulleys.

Should i replace my belt?

"I would check all battery connections and grounds."

My battery is relocated to the back, my connections corrosion free and making good contact. Im using a blue top optima, and its rather new, and its reading 850+ cranking amps. I'll take a pic during lunch

My Belt does not make any squealing noises either

The belt should be fine. You may check the marks on the tensioner to confirm that the length is correct and you have adequate tension.

Do your headlights flicker or anything like that when the needle jumps?

"Do your headlights flicker or anything like that when the needle jumps?"

Yes, my lights DIM, i think a flicker would best describe extra luminosity, which isn't the case here .. it is jus a slight dim, and is noticeable when im driving in a pitch black interstate. When im driving, again my needle jus jumps 200-300 rpms every 30 seconds or so. When im driving at night my headlamps dim when the needles jump.

I also checked my tension and it appears legit. I tugged on it and it felt snug like a belt should feel, wasnt too tight and obviously wasnt loose, i shall confirm this at a shop on my next paycheck. I forget the tolerance, but like 1/4" tug? That's about what i saw/felt

Should i get my Alternator checked? I hear it is a symptom of a failing ALT.. oh god i hope not lol those are a pain in the *** to replace.

I looked at my fuses, they look clean, none look burnt or anything. I dont have a multimeter so i cant confirm if any are faulty.

I'd suggest getting your alternator checked. The voltage regulator could be going bad on it.

The catch is... you have to remove the alternator to have it tested. So - you'll experience the PITA no matter what.

Its easier to remove from underneath the car and if you have small hands! Removal is straight forward - whatever you do - don't forget to unhook the exciter wire first. If you forget, you could easily break that wire.
