My dad put a 383 stroker motor in his 1988 Chevy truck about 10 years ago, and it has always had a rough idle when cold with the "chip" he had burnt for him on a new computer. If he puts the stock computer in, it will idle fine but it runs bad when warmed up and he loses power. He thinks he needs a new chip burned, but I know nothing about these motors so I figured I would ask here. Here is the info he gave me...
He has checked the timing, it is 32deg advanced, which he says is correct. He has tried changing the coolant sensor, but that didn't change anything. The truck has a 383 fuel injected motor, 68# injectors, "no air pollution" (?). In 1988, the truck came with TBI, and he has the stock dist. with MSD coils. Any ideas?
Like I said, he thinks he needs a new chip burnt, but I have no idea where to go for that, or if that will even solve the problem. He wants me to find someone local to burn him a new chip, anyone know of someone near Rochester, NY?
