Default electronic cutout vs. straight pipes

Im thinking about doing hooker headers with electronic cutout with a catted texas speed y pipe and my corsa catback on my 2000 trans am ws6. Should i do this or should i do straight pipes? Whats better? This car is a daily driver, so i need to make sure i dont mess anything up. I am going to get the tune to get rid of the o2 codes if i get straight pipes because its illegal to not have cats.

I would just get the cut out. When you say straight pipes do you mean the lm1 or true straight pipes? Either way the corsa is a good system thats just too expensive to ditch. Cut out ftw.

I run hooker stainless lt's, ORY, DMH cutout and the corsa. That way I get the best of both. Still get the nice sound of the corsa and I can dump it and be loud at the flip of a switch.

No...it will sound like open y pipe, and that's LOUD and raspy, although I loved running open y pipe for a day.

I think this thread shows why the Borla Adjustable catback is brilliant -- cutout built-in! ;-)

y pipe with cutout= sounds terrible but performs
straight pipe (no mufflers) = sounds BEYOND terrible, but should still perform
true duals with nice mufflers = sounds like pure sex and performs

I love the sound of an ls1 w/ no mufflers. I know most people dont like the loudmouth but I like it more than any exhaust I have heard.

Your sig says you have a catted Y. That makes it sound a lot different.

LM1 with lt, no cats = pure rasp, high pitch loud, and under load at cruise sounds like a boat/Cessna plane

(sounds great inside the car though)

+1 on this setup. I have a Flowmaster catback instead of a Corsa, but the theory is the same. The LT's + ORY + cutout can supply the volume and if you keep the cutout only partially open, it will push the exhaust through the catback to supply a nice tone. You get all of the benefits (primarily the volume) of the cutout without all of the rasp.

Here's an exhaust clip -- sorry the camera quality stinks!
