Default Need help in reviving my engine back (LS1 to LQ4 block conversion)

Hi all,

long story short my engine decided to off itself last Sunday morning. started the car, engine makes clank clank clank sound and then i checked under the car there's oil pouring out from the engine.

the car is in the shop now and i'm tinkering with the idea of put the LQ4/9 block in it and still reuse my 241 heads (tight funds)

i've searched and gather some information about it but i'd like to hear first hand from you guys. Things like how much it'll cost me, how long the labor's gonna take(i dont have tools and not mechanically inclined - i know how to change oil and stuffs but swapping block ), and things that i'll ask along the way since i'm right at the starting point for now.

so if anyone can design a combo for me and show me the light it'd be much appreciated

i'll start

LQ9 - $750 - TSP
Pistons - Diamond LS1 4.00"-4.030" Stock Stroke Pistons - $638
Crankshaft - ???
Rods - ???

Please help me complete the list as i'm really a newb and i dont want to be cheated by any mechanic, thank you for your help in advance.

Ray

if funds are that tight why not just replace the ls1 with another used ls1 for ~800 bucks. you'll spend way more than double that trying to put together low buck lq9 build unless you just buy a used short block

2500 bucks to get a new block, machine work, rotating assembly AND have it installed by a decent shop? going to be INCREDIBLY tight.

you'd get a lot more performance for the $$$ if you replaced the short block with a stock used or stock rebuilt and spent some money on some 243's and a new valvetrain and cam than pushing to go up to the 6l unless you're trying to step up to the 6l in a staged build up to go to l92/ls3 heads down the road.

what are you goals, short term and long term and that would better help figure out how to spend your money
