BORG WARNER t5 are they all the same/what fits behind an ls engine?
i want to do a manual swap to my 67 camaro when i put the ls under the hood but my budget doesn't support a tremec. However a BW t5 is cheep and everywhere. i'm not going to be running a ton of power through it right away and when i'm ready too i will have the money to upgrade to a tremec. my question is what is usable/better in the t5 line than the others.I see them in mustangs camaros jeeps s10s ect... which one should i aim for?

1500 to 2500 vs 500 for a solid t5 this gets the ball rolling and when i'm ready to buy a tremec i can sell the t5 to cover the cost of the trannsmission adapter or somthing. the point is that all i have is my powergilde and while i love that transmission for a street transmission the t5 is an upgrade and does set me on the better path.

There are a lot of different models and different gear ratios. Strength capacity varies from about 200 lbs of torque to about 300 in stock forms. I did one the other day that went into an 8000 fertilizer truck. I couldn't believe someone would use a T5 for this application but it had a gear reduction box behind it and an 80 hp 4 cylinder diesel is in front of it.

i'm looking at the ones that seem like they would fit my engine and application better. i see mustang camaro and s10 t5s all over the net the s10 seem to be cheeper are there any case difference or is it just gear differences if it is just gears i can look up the ratios and decide for myself but if there is actual physical differences then i will need to take that into account. so i suppose that is the question i am really asking.

There are alot of differences:
Input spline
Output spline
speedo type & tooth count
Length
ratio
shifter position
AND torque capacity.
I suggest you go for a 2.95 ratio Camaro or Mustang unit as these will last longer than the S10 ( 4.03?)

this is a budget build is all i'm trying to get the most done with the least spent i planned on using the 2 speed and still might but everyone says it's a bad choice i personally like it. It has never done me wrong and taken every beating i sent it's way i don't understand why it would make such a bad street transmission other than mileage might suck a little

S10s use a NV3500...different trans than the T5. The NV3500 does not like to be shifted very fast. It is a decent mini truck transmission, that's it. Gear ratio spread is quite wide as well.

The only practical swap is from a V8 camaro, 82-87 non world class with mechanical speedo, world class 88+ with electric speedo.
Forget S10, van (wrong shifter position and low torque rating) and camaro V6 models (low torque and wrong bell housing pattern).
The bell housing will be too small for the LS flywheel/clutch, you can check with keisler, they make a nice bell housing for LS motors.
