Tranny Questions / Problems 4L60E
Hey guys,
Been having some trouble after changing to a 3.23 rear from a 4.10 rear. Obviously i know the car needs to be re-tuned but i would of thought it would shift lower and not higher. At the track it was on the limiter or sounded like it got to 6500 and just reved up (slip?). On the street it was just shifting too high but now its not shifting at all, mostly 2-3 it just slips. Will the re-tune take care of this or do you guys think its probably time for a rebuild?
If that is the case, will i need to get a new converter as well? whats the average price of a rebuild kit / labor for installation? Im not a mechanic at all. Id also like a hybrid style valve body where i could shift it manually and it would shift right away unlike the lag with a regular transmission and also be able to just keep it in drive for traffic and stuff. Do they make those?
For reference the car is a 396 LT1 that makes 520-530 flywheel horse.

A4 automatic in 'full auto wide open throttle' is based on mph NOT rpm.
Example:with 3.23s' shifting at 5700 rpm at 44mph,4.10s' should be shifting at 5700 at 35 mph. Since the computor has not been 'tuned' for the gear change,it still wants to shift at the higher mph, thus it has to go higher in rpm to try to attain it.
