Default A lesson on LS1/LS6 engines

First of all an LS1 is an LS6 and vise versa. The only difference is the cam on an ls6 is different along with the heads and intake. (The block is the same but they got different casting numbers).

If you change the heads/cam on an LS6 to LS1 heads/cam you got yourself an LS1! [Minus the intake but the 01-02 cars had an LS6 intake]. The same goes for an LS1, if you install LS6 head/cam then you have effectively made it an LS6. The ONLY reason GM gave the engines different names was to differentiate between the setups.

Technically speaking...the LS6 engine doesn't exist, its just a modified LS1 so every LS6 is an LS1 but not every LS1 is an LS6 (because it lacks the H/C to make it an LS6)

If you modify an LS6 it is no longer an LS6, but a modified LS1 engine. The LS6 engine DOESN'T exist, its components do (H/C).

Take your 02 WS6 engine and slap a LS6 H/C and you've got an LS6!!!

the LS6 block is a bit different, its not fair to call them the same.

Plus you will need to use the camaro oil pan to fit an LS6 long block into the car.
