Default coolant crossover on back of heads instead of front?

Anyone ever put the coolant crossover tube across the back of the heads instead of the front?

Wondering if functionally it will serve the same purpose? I have a fuel pressure regulator mounted up front and would like to put that crossover in the back and plugs in the front but I'm having a difficult time finding info as to if this will still serve as a steam vent?

Thanks for any info ahead of time!

Your car should have come with coolant crossovers on the front AND back.

There are threads about this. Unfortunately, not all threads are easily found. You cannot substitute the rear for the front. The fronts need to be tied together & then run to a high point on the radiator, radiator top hose, top of water pump or high radiator auxilary box. If you leave the fronts plugged, the tops of cylinder(s) 1 & 2 will run hot. Engine is higher in the front than the rear.

Do you have a part number for this steam vent? I have the one that only connects the front and would like one that connects the front w/ the back of the heads. Thanks

That is the one for a LS1 intake (98-99), it won't fit a LS6 intake (00-02) without modifications to the bottom of the intake.

The original LS1 four corner coolant manifold fits under the LS6 intake manifold if you shave off some of the ribs. An easy and quick task.

The coolant manifold had a GM part number of 12562169 but it's long discontinued.

My 06, 6.0 only had the front ones and the rears plugged. I was thinking about drilling and tapping the plugs and running braided with an fittings. I've heard so many opinions on this, I just figured it wouldn't hurt to have front and rear.

I feel all 4 ports should be used.
I'm running a Fast 102 so I chose to use the Kurt Urban performance steam tube kit.
I'll post pictures when installed

The front of the block gets the cooled water from the water pump first, meaning the front of the heads gets the cooled water first. The rear of the heads gets coolant last, it's already picked up some heat.

I say it's more important to have steam ports on the rear of the heads rather than the front.

The LT1 engine added ports to the rear of the heads.

These ports also help bleed air from the system.

I use GM crossovers at the front and at the rear, I plumbed them together with a aluminum j-shaped T which connects to radiator neck.
