Default Short or longblock $$$?

ok so i have set my sights on the LQ4/9 i can get a full block for around 1000 or buy a short block for less than 500.

sense i want to use the L92 heads and ls intake,injectors,wiring,ect... would it be cheaper to buy a full block and sell the parts i don't need or just buy the short block and build up from there.

What have your experiences been?

get as complete a pull as possible; youll sell the intake/injectors/rails/wiring but if you still need accessories/sensors/etc having the donor will be a life saver

So i am Dredging this up to pose some questions

I have been doing loads of research bought a few books and have had to adjust some funds to fixing things on the car that had to be addressed before buying a new engine (and possibly a transmission but thats another subject) so i have been thinking cost vs fun

and a 6.0 sounds like fun but the cost for a complete running setup even with tons of the work done my self (90%) still isn't enough to justify 400hp

Then an almost complete turbo kit fell into my lap (no pipes but 2 57mm turbos blow off times oil lines everything else)My friend in the Rex community had his car totaled a month ago by an suv (blind turn or something) cause i helped him install it when he got the car back from the wrecker he told me to come get whatever i wanted before he started selling parts.

now i'm not asking can a set of turbos make 400 or even what engine. but i am asking is putting a 4.8 (500 for just about everything) in a 67 camaro something you guys would do

has an inline 292 in it atm (4.8l for you guys keeping track) this is why im asking i know they can produce hotrod did an article on one that was supposed to be 5.3 and it made 1200hp before they checked and found out it was 4.8. i'm only asking cause it doesn't feel like an upgrade. it is i know. same L but better fuel economy and newer design. hell just more performance parts in general. what do you guys think. save a few more bucks and drop it on a 6.0 or save the money and build a nice twin 4.8? me and my friend have the means to do all the turbo installing and piping and i'm not going for broke on hp. does a 4.8ls do the it justice when you pop the hood?

Yep. I bought a 20K mile 2009 5.3 complete for $600.00. Used the A/C compressor ($300) on my daily driver truck. So I only had $300 in the engine. Found a 5500 mile 2004 LQ4 shortblock for $500.00 (looked new). I robbed the 799 heads and accessories off the 5.3 and put them on the 6.0.

So all I wanted to do was make my $500 back off the remaining 5.3 parts. I sold the 5.3 short block for $200 (guy was pleased. He bought alot of them and said it looked new). I sold the intake, fuel rails, flex fuel injectors for $250.00. I sold the harness, ecm, and tcm for $150.00. So I made $600 back off the 5.3. So heads and accessories were free. I still (basically) have the $300 in the LQ4, 799 heads, and accessories. I'm carbing it so I didn't need any of the EFI stuff. Craigslist can be good to you if you are patient.
