Stall Question...Is this how it works...
I have read numerous threads on stall converters...my question is, how does one work? Lets say you have a 3000stall. Does that mean when you are sitting at a stop sign and take off, it will rev up to 3k RPM, then take off hard? Or is there something else to it?
My trans came with like a 3600 stall. But I DO NOT plan on racing. Am I better off running a stock converter?
I have a 408 with lots of stuff done and a Performabuilt Level/Stage2 Trans, but I will most likely never take it to the track. I like to have all the power there, but more than anything else, I like to be able to street drive the thing!
Thanks in advance.

if you step on it easy car will move easy, in real world with 3600 stall your rpm will go up to ABOUT 12-1500 rpm beFORE you move, if you stomp it from a dead stop the 3600 MAY flash to 28-3200 to move, if you brake stall it it may go to 25-2800 rpm if you have stickey tires, if street tires may go to 22-2500 then rear tires will begain to spin
I ran a Yank 3600 on the street/strip for 7-8 years, now running a yank 4000, I would never go back to running a stock converter. I do not know which gear you are running, you may like to go to 3.73 you may not want to run 4.11, myself I ran 3.23 for about a year, 3.73 for 8-9 years now on 4.11/9".
You may/will like the stall, as stated you may want to run a gear with it
I like stalls, gears, and detroit lockers
good luck

As you said OP that you want to be able to street drive you can do that just fine. The converter will lock at a certain rpm and you will not know any difference in OD.
