Default Deleting the factory bose stuff?

I have a 94 Z28, it has just three speakers(Bose). Do the door speakers have amps also? I was thinking of deleting all the factory speakers and just running something in the sail panels. Will it sound alright? If I go this route what should I put in the sail panel, 6x8, 6x9?

Head unit is a Alpine CDE-102. Would I just pull all the factory speaker wiring and run speaker wire to the sail panels? How would they mount in the sail panels, are there already holes for screws?

What's the purpose for deleting the speakers in the doors and just running some in the sail panels? Are you trig to lighten the car? I honestly don't think it would sound right, I'm also not sure a 6x9 won't fit in the sail panel either.

Trying to shed some weight, I thought I had head the front speakers had amps too so I figure they have to weigh something. I suppose I could just run two door speakers? Would that sound better than running speakers in the sail panels?

^agree with penta, a whole lot better. Im not sure on the camaros but my 94 TA door speakers did not run off the amp. The amp only powered the subs in the sail panel.

Bose systems had individual amps on each of the speakers. They also used a common ground system so you will have to run new wires when replacing speakers.

Thanks everyone, I'll just run some door speakers then. I was planning on new wires anyway, its such a mess behind the head unit. There is this black box I guess to make the head unit happy with the Bose stuff, there is just wiring everywhere.

What would be a good pair of door speakers, knowing this is all I will be running?

That black box is probably the DRL module. Get a good pair of speakers so you don't have to replace them all the time from getting blown.

I tried those awhile back just temporarily and they sucked, within no time they were blown which sounded worse than stock.

The black box is probably an adapter for the Bose system such as a PAC OEM-1. It is basically an adjustable line out converter that steps down the speaker-level output of the head unit to the low-level input needed by the Bose amplifiers. I don't think the 94 Camaro had DRLs so it wouldn't be a DRL module.

So if I were to just run two door speakers, what sounds good?

Yeah the little black box is by Scosche or something like that. I just see it as a huge mess that could disappear.

Oh alright. Anyone know the differences between the Bose adapter and DRL module, such as size and location? Not familiar with the Bose setup.

Should I go with Alpine type R's or something? Speaker recommendation, just to run two door speakers.

Pulled the rear Bose yesterday, if anyone is looking for one. Damn that was a clunky funky shaped box.

Are the Pioneers really that cheap that with just 50w I'll kill them?

94 cars don't have DRL's. That started in 97. I was personally very happy with my old 5 speaker Bose setup, but to each their own.

no matter what you put in that headunit only has 18watts rms so as long as the spekaers can handle 18watts rms you are good
