I had PM'ed another member about 3 or so days ago and the person finally got around to replying today. I open the PM and soon see that there are no "Reply" options or anything like that, so I can't send him a PM back. I log-out and log back in to see if that did anything and the PM link under my username that I used to see is completely gone now. Also when I go to my User CP to access my PM's it says "11 out of 0 PM's allowed", not sure what the deal is, my PM's have been working fine up until now

Can someone please help me with this issue, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I thought it was just me. One thing we all have in common is we're noobs with a low post count.

I think they just changed the rules about post count and not being able to look at the classified sections and not being able to message if you have under 50 post or 6 months or less new to the site.

I'm having the same issue. Now I have no way of contacting the person I was looking to buy parts from. At least they could have given us a headsup so we could make other arrangements!

We welcome you signing up to share information and contribute to the site, nothing is preventing you from doing so.

However, classifieds access has been restriced to established members for many years, and is an earned privilege. You should have no problem meeting the requirements to access our classifieds if your intent is to meaningfully contribute to the site with information sharing. :)

gonna have to start posting the shit outa this site if thats the case lol...

Post whoring is a great way to get your post count reset to zero, or potentially be banned:

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/6882681-post3.html

For Sale Forums - Posting Problems

Every registered user on LS1tech is now required to have a minimum of 50 posts, or a minimum of 6 months membership duration before they can gain the privilege of posting a NEW THREAD or REPLY in the Classifieds sections, or post FOR SALE ad (or REPLY with selling intent) in any section of the site. Post whoring (i.e. "cool, nice car, ..., sweet.....etc) to reach 50+ posts is not allowed. Post count will be reset to zero with or without any notification. If member is caught post whoring two times they will be banned.

Unfortunately, we've had to put this restriction on our site due to so many lurking scammers popping up and taking honest money. This restriction has helped to ring out a lot of the scammers looking to make a quick buck on our site. Posting for sale items in other forums to circumvent this rule is prohibited and the posts will be deleted.

After your 50th post, it takes a period of 24 hours to update your access to the classifieds forums. DO NOT make a post requesting instant access upon making your 50th post, the system is automated. The database updates certain records on a daily basis, it is not instantaneous. Any threads regarding this will be locked/ignored.

Please do not contact us asking to circumvent this 50 post rule. The system is automated and we do not make exceptions. We feel that the classifieds forums here are a privilege to contributing members, not a free service for new members.

Hey all,
My PM counter on the top right corner dissapeared, and when I access my PMs I only have 22 and it says total 22, 0 allowed. Cant send or receive at this point. Any insight?
thanks!

Im pretty sure they changed the rules so that you need either 6 months or 50 posts to view classifieds or send PM's. You should be pretty close to the 6 month mark though

I recently purchased a part from the classified ads. How can I contact the seller with these new rules on private messages. Now neither him or I can contact each other. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. My post count is 18 and 6 months won't be up till may 28

You're right - I have the same problem.

These new rules are BS. I don't have any posts or history on this site because I JUST BOUGHT an LS1 last week. Now I'm here daily looking for information, specs, and parts.

I had 20-something PMs that I can no longer see or respond to. I even have a positive iTrader rating - I'm not scamming anyone. This site is a great resource but these arbitrary restrictions are the wrong way to "fix" this issue.

Sorry I can't help you, OP. Scammers suck but it's too bad honest buyers like you and me have to pay.

Same problem here. May be due to our low post count

Got a message from one of the site admins today -- no access to PMs or classifieds until you reach 50 posts or 6 months on the site. Seems strange, but that's what I was told...

Why was there not any heads up for the pm's to be taken away if you have less the 50 post or 6 months?

I'm assuming this is the case from what i could find. There is very limited info on the topic since there seems to be no official post on the matter.

I understood that rule applying to the classifieds to deter scammers and such, but for a very basic forum necessity such as pm'ing to be taken away till a requirement is meet seems a bit much.

Taking away the ability to pm leads to users not being able to messages admins when issues surface, but instead they will now have to start new threads to try and find help in a very roundabout frustrating way.

It seems like this will cause more problems than good and would result in turning fledgling users away from the forum all together.

Any input and info would be much welcome on the matter.

Oh I just figured this out.
If you want to view you old private messages you can still go to quick links tab and private messaging is listed near the bottom.

Still cant pm but at least you can see your old messages.

If a new user is having trouble getting PMs because they need to contact a mod or PM another member for something other then selling or buying something then I feel bad for them. But the fact is 90% of the people bitching about not being able to PM fully admit that its because they cannot override the 50 post/ 6 month rule to contact a buyer or seller to buy/sell something and have no other way to contact them. This site is a information site first with the benefit of being able to sell/buy things with other members second not the other way around. Myself along with many other members waited the 6 month/ 50 post time to use the classifieds I just don't see why people can't grasp the concept.

I agree with what you stated.

I can easily see where people would use the pm system to try and get around the 50 post or 6 month policy, since it is a bit of a steep policy from what other forums I'm a part of have in place.

It still stands that the members should have been notified of the change to private messaging.

The forum is a great place for info and is why i joined recently to expand my knowledge of ls based engine tech with my upcoming build of dropping a ls6 and a t56 in my 93 rx7.

I understand the 50 post or 6 month policy for the classifieds.
Its a nice secondary feature for active contributing members to buy/sell/trade their items.
