I am wanting to build a 388 stroker for a dd. It will be going in either a 63 impala or an el camino. I have a stock 350 with a good 400 crank, so what kind of bang for the buck goodies can I use for this build. I am looking for great hp and torque. Thanks

You could use a set of Vortec style heads but would have to use a Vortec style intake due to the different bolt pattern. These heads have a 64 cc chamber and outflow the old "camel hump" heads. They are pretty cheap also. You can get them from a Chevy dealer new.

They would make excellent torque on a 383 and good horsepower for a DD.

If you plan on boring your block .060 I would get it sonic tested first, We don't see many GM blocks for performance builds that would be good at that bore.

vortec heads is a great start. im helping a friend with a similiar build. its an 86 regal, but staying with a 350 for now. will have edelbrock etec 200 (vortec based) heads performer rpm vortec intake, dynatech 1 3/4 long tubes, ultimate conveter 3000 stall 4.11's and an ed curtis custom cam 224/236 .601/.603 on a 110 lsa with 1.6 pro magnum rockers. should be a fun street car. a 383 with cast vortecs would be a torque monster.

What "goodies" are you talking about? Rotating assembly parts, cam, heads?

It all depends on your budget! Get your bottom end rock solid and build up from there. I built a 383 last year that made 506 hp and 489 ft pounds on pump gas, I could use it as a dd if I could afford to put gas in it! Feel free to ask questions if you want.
