i think a flat black approach would have looked better, but atelast it doesnt look like every other 5th gen on the road.

Flat black would have looked decent but what he did is stupid. Make a rat rod out of a junk car not a $40k + car. That's obviously someone who has too much money.

That looks like comeplete SH*T! The engine looks awesome. Seems like it was an old guy that likes rat rods but has no talent to actually build his own and alot of extra money so he took a grinder to a brand new 5th gen.

I'd rather have my car look like every car on the road then to take a brand new car and turn it into a theft recovery turd rod.

Exactly. This isn't a rat rod. This is more of a faux patina car. Rat rods are like you said, are low-buck builds. I think that this car would be more interesting with a killer paint job. No likey.

Looks like crap, neat idea but it didn't come out good at all. That car is probably very fast if it's capable of hooking though.

agree i love the old skeeewl rat rods but that is just junk, rat rods are more than just shitty paint , and alot of the fab work i have seen on some of those is top notch, that is just dumb,

not a fan either, but maybe if they debadge it, get rid of the black grille and replace the rims with old looking slicks and skinnies, it migh help out a little bit.

Yep, looks like sh!t. But isn't that what the guy was aiming for? Kudos for trying something different, I guess. But new styling and trying for "rat rod" looks just doesn't work obviously. Rat rods need to be old styling IMO.

I appreciate the idea, and the "paint removal" looks to be well done & the patina looks good, but it looks outta place on the new car for sure. I agree that he probably has a bunch of $$ and cant build something cool.
I woulda just sprayed it in primer grey, and blacked out the lights, that way it would look nonchalant...

I'm usually down for whatever, but this doesn't work for me. However, it's cool to look at the pictures and imagine them looking like this in a few decades. One day they'll sit under trees behind houses and be scattered about the wrecking yards looking just like that.

I saw the car in person at last years Hot Rod Power Tour. Driver of the car was arrogant to say the least. Was beating the ever living hell out of it to boot. I cant even explain how disgusted most people were with his driving and personality.

WFT is so "cool" about this? Looks like any other new camaro. I should've posted before and after pics of my damm near totaled grand prix. Broken windsheild/headlights, scratchs/dents, paint fucked up all down the side fender and door....Took it to the body shop..looks like new... Wonder if everyone would've swung from my nuts....

The whole point of a "Rat Rod" is to buy some old beater and NOT fix it up - that's the allure. Everything is a budget....

Like I said ID as in STOOPID. Plain stupid to put that kind of effort into a paint job that isn't perfect. Plus I think the whole "fauxtina" thing is dumb as dog shit, patina is earned. Like No Hope said Rat rods got ratty because guys that had them put their money in the mechanicals not cosmetics. The "ratty" appearance came out of that. A brand new car made to look ratty is wasted effort.

I seriously can't believe that this car is still being talked about, just how dumb it is. Red Jewel is a great color for the 5th gen, sad to see it reduced to that. Truth is that car will be most 18 year old's hero car 7-10 years from now.

Rat rods and the Patina look are supose to be from old cars that you actually can find rusted in a field or whatever, I havent seen any rusty 5th gens laying in fields or sitting in a garage for years. Totally disgraced this car, engine area looks stout but the outside makes me want to puke.
