Having problems getting into reverse
I have an '01 Trans Am WS-6 with the M6. I'm having some issues getting into reverse. I literally have to hold the shifter in gear or it will pop out of reverse and start grinding. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Huh, I owned a 2000 Camaro SS w/M6 and I never had this problem. Hope I can find a cheap easy fix, but probably not.

Sounds like a shift fork or syncro problem to me. Is it worth pulling it apart, or paying someone big money to fix, not in my humble opinion. Just live with it until you get really sick of it and get the trans freshened and throw a new clutch kit it the belhousing while its out. My 97 SS does the same thing on ocasion. Just a minor pain. Maybe try changing the fluid, but I doubt that it will fix it. Just my .02. Eric L

my $ is on the reverse synchro and DON'T try to hold it in gear or you'll need a new reverse gear eventually as well. I had the same prob when I bought my car and the seller told me to hold it in gear. after 2 summers I couldn't back out of anything that wasn't slopped to the rear. I had the whole tranny rebuilt and upgraded while it was out, the most expensive no-reverse problem I'll prolly ever fix

Check your clutch fluid. I had the same problem and the clutch fluid was black. I used a syringe to get the dirty fluid out, replaced with new, pump the clutch pedal 30 times. Repeat as many times as necessary till the fluid stays clear. The dirty fluid causes the slave cylinder to not work properly and the clutch doesnt fully release.
It was still notchy for a day but went back to normal after that.

Ok thanks for all the suggestions. I will check the fluid and see what it looks like, otherwise I will look into replacing the reverse syncro. How hard would that be to do by myself?
