Default What is the safest way to do a burnout on a PB Level 3?

Question for PB sponsor (I have one of your PB Level 3 4l60E Trans) but also general question. Is it better/easier on transmission to do a burn-out with trans manually shifted to 1st then 2nd or can it just be left in Drive allowing the trans to auto shift?

I tried to do that whole 1-2 up-shift crap for the burnout and it turned out to be fail. I don't really see the point of doing that at all. Just put the lever in 3 and let it rip.

I always do the 1-2 upshift. Just easier to bust them loose in first. Works great for me.

Why would it be hard on the trans? I've heard people say that, but haven't heard a credible reason why.

Because its shifting in a manner that it is not designed to is all I can figure. Do enough of them with sticky tires and the shifts can feel pretty rough from inside the car. While I'm not a tranny builder, common sense tells me when you have one burnout that feels abusive and one that feels buttery smooth, well you know the rest....... I've done them both ways tons of times.

Well, the wheels are turnning when the transmission shifts whether it's a burnout or you're going down the track at WOT. The only difference I can think of is in the inertia or resistance that the band meets when it grabs the drum - the difference in load.

I don't know if this would have much, if any, negative effect. One of our tranny gurus would need to weigh in on the question.
