Pacesetters, No cats, ORY = which Muffler?
Figured I'd post this in the newbie tech because I know there are 10000's of exhaust threads on here, but searching I couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. My car currently has Pacsetters, no cats, ORY, and a single Dynomax Bullet dumped right underneath the axle. The car is ridiculously loud IMO and I'm hoping a muffler change will do the trick. Does anyone know of a muffler that has a deep tone, still makes some noise, but quieter than the bullet on there?
Also, if I were to dump it closer to the bumper instead of directly under the axle would that make a noticeable difference in sound from inside the car?

Thanks, I ran Pacesetters w/ ORY and dumped 3" in/out Hooker Aerochamber on my 5.3 Silverado and loved it. If I go with the Aerochamber again on this car I'll have the exact same setup, but for some reason this car is 10000000x louder than my truck was ..are bullets really that loud? I'm not positive it's a Dynomax, was just told a bullet when I bought the car and it looks around 18" ..I'll crawl under it tomorrow and see if I can find out what it is for sure. Lol all I know is it has to go!

Dynomax, Borla and Magnaflow all make round/oval mufflers that are better at noise suppression than a basic Dynomax race bullet. These round/oval mufflers are a bit larger than a bullet, but can still be made to work with a custom true dual system (often times they will be located just forward of the bumper, right before the tips). If you want a true dual setup that dumps at the axle, then space limitations will cause increased difficulty in regards to muffler size selection.
The other option would be to use a full length, standard catback. The suggestion of Hooker was a good one, if you want significant noise reduction from your current setup. Regardless of what catback you choose, you can always retain the current bullet in the I-pipe, or add dual bullets to the Y-pipe for additional volume reduction.
In regards to some of your other comments.....
Yes, most definitely. Anything that dumps under the car will seem much louder in the cabin than the same setup exiting at the bumper.
It's also possibile that the packing material inside the bullet has worn down, since you don't know the age or details of the muffler. This would obviously make it louder.

Well I've narrowed it down to 2, Hooker Aerochamber & Flowtech Afterburner ..both basically performed the same on the dyno test that has been posted on here numerous times, and have the same db levels. The Afterburner is around $15 cheaper, only difference I've found ..but the Hooker is much more known and is a proven muffler. I can't decide!
Anyone know if they make a round muffler that performs similar to the 2 above, quiet and everything? My car is pretty low, I'm afraid an oval muffler will drag at times. Something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-14419

I know exactly what you are saying about the noise with the longtubes, ory, and dynomax bullet. It is almost unbearable to drive with the windows up. Also at about half throttle the people driving around me, with their windows down, end up rolling them up. At WOT I'm pretty sure I can be heard from the moon. I have a cam as well. So I'm sure that doesn't help any with the noise.

I have Hooker Supercomps, ORY, with two 3" Spiral flows inline ( one before the axle, the second after) dumping at the rear bumper. Very subdued sound, and several people have told me it sounds really good. Its actually just a little quiet for my taste, but sounds like it would probably suit you well.
