The LS3 intake is different then the others. It has a piece of foam sandwiched between a top portion and the intake it self. It will fit both 92 and 3 heads. Casting numbers on the heads( I don't know all of them). 241's and 243's are LS1 and 6 heads, 317's are truck heads, 821's are 92 castings. Look for the cam sensor to be mounted on the front cover 92's and 3's are here. The injectors are different. The T body could be drive by wire on any engine newer then a 2003. Look in the stickies for more info. The blocks have displacement castings on them. The 3 and the 92 should be 6.2 blocks the rest will be 5.7 or 6.0 or 5.3 or 4.8

I read on one of the stickey posts the ls3 block casting "Ls3 Block, eng (cstg) 12584724" and the "L92 Block, eng (cstg) 12584724" the same so if thats the block casting number i know its a 6.2L but how do i distinguish between the two? I know the l92 has vvt but this engine is already in a t\a so im sure the vvt cover is gone. my primary concern is making sure it is a 6.2 and not a ls1 or something else i wouldnt want... any help please

It will have 6.2 cast on the block. What are they telling you? That it's a stock LS3. Go to GM Performance web site and look for the head casting #'s that would be the best way to identify the heads.

Its pretty safe to say that if the block is aluminum and it has 821 heads on it then its an LS3. These are the castings that came on LS3's and these heads must have at least a 4.0" bore to clear so they will not fit on an LS1 hence the easy tell.

L92's on the other hand came with head castings 823 or 5364 which would mean its an L92. L92's are basically the identical engine as an LS3 save for the valves being solid rather than hollow and L92's use VVT which is a bonus if its there.

If its an iron block then its not an LS3 period.

where is the 6.2 cast into the block at? and the 821 is on the corner of the head by the valve cover correct?

The cast is on the backside of the block. You won't be able to see it unless it's pulled out.

See if the seller has paper work for all the parts and machine work. Short of pulling a head it will be tough to tell. The valve cover would be easy pull to check for those parts. Basically how well do you trust the seller. A 427 is going to run alot harder then a stock LS3 etc. Get some one filmilar with these cars to go with you.
