Default exhaust cutouts yes or no?

Hey whats up guys, i have a 02 trans am ws6 with pacesetter longtube headers, ory, and slp loudmouth catback(but i replaced the loudmouth resonator with a magnaflow magnapack...because i hated the raspy sound)so my question is should i get exhaust cutout(s)..do they really make power even just a little more? And if i get em where do i weld them in to?

It should make more power, how much will not be known until you dyno, I expect it not to be as much as you might think. I always ran mine before the exhaust goes over the axle, basically where the rear seat would be. Some run right off the collectors. just make sure the car has a tune for that for optimal results.

Personally I would not bother, but maybe with a electric cut out cap it may be worth your time.

not really the answering your question here but i seen some sweet cut outs that open on vacuum, suppose to open fast. not really a good street car idea but still very interesting. i believe they are for smaller turbo cars.

As for your car there should be a small increase like said above probably not as much as you think. but it will be loud as all hell when you open them so you do get that intimidation factor. me personally i like the sound better though the exhaust.

Power wise it will give you a few more ponies but main thing will be the sound. You can't go wrong with a cutout.Get a electric cutout so it can easily be opened or closed and less time getting under the car

im not and expert on f-bodies but im learning about these cars more and more everyday do to this site. if there like other muscle cars ive had then we have always put them right behind the headers. this way it like running open headers.

How much power they will uncork depends entirely on how restrictive your exhaust is up to the point of the cutout. Considering how little restriction your specific exhaust setup has, you will see only small gains from a cutout.

Ok so i wanna get em with all this positive feedback, now my question still stands....one person said right after the header collectors...any other suggestions?...some people have told me right before the axle some have told me to weld it in as soon as the y pipe merges into one? Where should i weld the cut out(s)?

I would spend the money on something else. You are only going to gain a few horsepower from the cut-outs, and it's going to cost you $300+ to get two of them. You wouldn't gain anything doing it after the y-pipe with your exhaust, so right after the collectors is the only spot really.

Well i dont want electric cut outs so ill only spend about 80 for both and about 30 to weld in....so my best be would be right after the header collectors

I put my cutout under the spot right behind the passenger after the y pipe. I went with an electric cutout for the noise police and ease of use and it sounds awsome. I dont know that i picked up any power but i did it for the sound which is awsome

Magnaflow 14419 is that the part # you went with?

Also my vote goes to yes to cutouts. Even though you dont want electric you will get tired of crawling under the car to open/close. More fun with push of a button.

I have dual DMH e-cutouts being installed in the y pipe

I wouldn't waste my time on two non-electric cutouts, that's a lot of work everytime you want to open them up.

or when you want to close them up . I installed a "white trash " cutout on the formula. Its been two months two traffic stops and so far no issues.
Its only a temporary fix for the stock exhaust. when my headers and y get there ill be doing a custom exhaust , and probably buying and electic cutout. I just like giving people a surprise when they pull up next to me thinkin.. o thats a firebird.

If you are doing dual cutouts. Get them welded right at the end of the Y pipe (where they make the little turn)

Just like in this picture

http://www.byunspeed.com/images/DMH2050-XX2.jpg

But if you are doing two. Then you will want low profile ones. Do it right the first time

All welding them in after the Y is going to do is make it a little louder, no real gains. After the collectors will give you the best gains, but save up for the low profile electric cutouts and do it right.
