Default Factory Gen III oil pressure sender - can it plug into a gauge?

I'm almost ready to test fire my LQ4 with LS3 heads/intake in my 68 camaro.
See here:

So I bought some adapters in hopes of plugging my autometer gauge into the stock sending unit location, but the sending unit does not clear the intake manifold.
I had purchased the oil cooler delete from nooks and tranny without the threaded port, and now they are out of the ones with the threads.

Do any gauges, factory or otherwise, plug into the factory Gen III oil sending unit and work?

Thanks!

Are you trying to use an electrical or mechanical auto meter gauge? If your space is limited do to the intake, try using a 90* adapter fitting.

Electrical. And the space is so limited back there that I doubt even a 90* fitting would work. I need to just get the tapped oil cooler delete plate from nooks and tranny, but they are out of stock.

We usually use a combination of 90* or 45* or both fittings to clear about anything, however if you need to make it happen fast it is simple enough to remove the oil pan/ cooler piece and drill and tap it to 1/8 npt.

Add some -3an hose between the fitting on the block and the AM sending unit, then mount the sending unit on the firewall with an insulated cable clamp.

Block
to
AM M16 to 1/8npt adapter
to
1/8npt male to -3an male adapter
to
-3an hose
to
-3an male to 1/8npt female adapter
to
Sending unit

Believe it or not, you can get most of the AN fittings at your local big box hardware store.

GEN III oil sending units drive an analog gauge just fine

hey pocket, et al, does that mean I can wire the factory oil pressure sender at the back of my LS1 intake manifold to a run-of-the-mill analog gauge ? No need for buying a fancy autometer or some such gauge/sender combo ???

I'm priming my engine on a test stand now and would like to hook up a press gauge, but alas, i dont have the thin walled socket to get the sender out to swap for a fancy setup. would be nice if I could just alligator clip the terminals to a cheap gauge for a 'look see' while I crank.

That will work fine, remember LSx engines use metric threads

Method I usually put on the harness is clip the old clip off and solder the new connector

EDIT: YES SIR, METRIC ONLY SIR !!! LOlz, I know, I bitch to myself all the time with the hairbrained concoction of mixed SAE and Metric fasteners on my B and DBodys.

OK, here's a schema for an 04 GTO, focusing on the oil press sensor circuit.

C1 from PCM provides 5V ref over BU/YE to sensor
GN provides 0V grnd ref from pcm
BN/WH is our signal voltage to the pressure gauge.

I presume the other side of the gauge is grounded too.

accuracy of the gauge is dependant on the voltage range and gauge, obviously. Initially I'd just like to know whether I'm getting oil feed, rather than exact psi value.

I'm willing to experiment with a cheapo unit from summit

EDIT2: likewise, one could provide the 5V ref from PCM/powersupply, grnd the GN wire, and hook up a VOM to the BN/WH signal. Just for a look see. If it's a linear scale, anything over a couple volts should indicate 30 psi+
