Cool 1996 Camaro Input for a 15yr old

Hey guys im new here. im only 15 and my predicament is im wondering if its a good deal to buy my cousins 96 Camaro Z28 convertible. Its got 86k, sound system, and magnaflow from the manifold back. Its always indoors, and overall its a really clean car with no major body imperfecions. hes asking 6500 for it as it sits and 7000 for new tires. This is the white exterior, which i might be wrong but that makes it a little rarer, right? Im thinkin im gunna hold off on the new tires if i buy it though and find some different rims. And if it helps at all i drive a 1991 Buick Park Avenue with 96k, which i can afford to keep so i have something to drive when the weather is bad.

Thanks in advance,
Ashton

Hi Ashton, I have a page on my site that might help you or somebody else looking at this topic. http://sites.google.com/site/branget...o/buyers-guide

'96 was a great year. The problem with convertibles is that when (not if) the top needs to be replaced, it's expensive. $1000+ usually. That's a general convertible issue, not just Camaro convertibles.

White isn't a rare color, unless you're talking about the convertible top.

If I were you, I wouldn't change from 16 inch wheels. Larger wheels are going to make the car ride rough, and aren't really a performance upgrade for the convertible, just a style upgrade. Even the '96 SS convertibles had 16 inch wheels instead of 17s like the coupes. If the car still has the Z28 Salad Shooter wheels, Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position tires are my favorite choice. They are expensive at over $800 for a full set, but worth it.

All I can tell you is from experience you better hope you have a good job or your parents are paying for everything with this car. Insurance won't be too much fun. I just bought another 02 Z28 and I love it. Is the one you want manual or automatic?

Way too much for that lt1.

Insurance is going to run you north of 300 if in your name.

How are you affording the car? Not looking to flame just curious a out the situation.

Had a '97 Z28 M6 my senior year of high school...loved it and loved the attention. Hated the insurance and the cost of repairs (water pump/opti incident...)

If you can afford it, then get one...but be smart with it. However I agree with the above...that price is in LS1 Z28 range. Your cousin is asking too much.

Buy an ls1 for that money or a BETTER lt1. I guess the low miles and good condition of the car make him want to sell it for a good price, but i got kinda ripped for 5 flat for my 97 lt1 dude. I had to talk my way down to that too

craigslist, autotrader.com, ebay all great places to start searching.
